This isn't the most gruesome story, but if you get in the moment it's pretty funny.

A few years back on BI I was pulling an all nighter with Nebe...

Only had one fish worth keeping which was tossed into Nebe's cooler, which stunk like a mother, but it was better than nothing.

(For the record, it's worth noting that the fish was caught on a Tattoo Sea Dog, even though Nebe said I'd never catch top water there)

About 1-2am I was cleaning the fish and managed to gash the heck out of my left thumb. No first-aid kit and being BI there's not a lot of services open at that hour.

So we headed back to the house where he was staying, slipped the fish into their fridge and went upstairs. Of course, they have no medical supplies. It wasn't like I was dying, but I did want to at least clean it out and avoid any infection.

So I start to wash it in the only sink available. I did have a bar of soap and a roll of toilet paper. It was bleeding pretty badly but I worked the soap in deep to get it clean the best I could, and this made for a lot of blood.

Then Nebe lets me know the sink doesn't drain all that well.

So here I am with a sink full of blood red water, that isn't going anywhere. (note, if you were there...this was a pretty funny scene).

So I bandage it up with TP, and try to go to sleep on the hard wood floor Nebe had afforded me. It was either that or the back of his truck.

After a while, my legs are cramping up so badly I can barely lie there. All I had was a thin rug and the pressure was very uncomfortable.

Not sure what was going on, my mind assumed I must have been poisoned by Nebe's rank cooler via my gash...my blood must be diseased and it's spreading up my legs!

So I tossed and sweat all night long until morning.

We bought some meds at the grocery and hit the surf.

Good thing my tetnus was up to date. It never got infected and I only have a small scar to show for it.

Again, not that gory...but it was funny all the same.

Ten years ago on a Bonefish trip with Sauerkraut to the Acklins (out islands of Bahamas), with any access to a medical clinic several days away, I used a conch to beat a 28 lb barracuda flopping in a tiny skiff dead. Put a spike into the web between my first and second finger. Big, deep, bloody hole. I'd brought a medical kit with some sutures. Using his fishing pliers, Sauerkraut sewed me up at the little lodge's kitchen table.
