Newer HP takling a long time to load web pages
Why is the new HP with a 2.4 gig quad core processor taking three and four time to load web pages and sb.com as the older 1.4 gig Gateway intel pent 4 did. I thinking the Microsoft Exp. is screwing things up in the background somehow. It is getting agravating. I changed the AOL download settings and that help, but it is stillrunning slow on the page upload..

Frank, how do you connect to the internet? Are you still using a 56k modem? My first guess would be your internet connection. Is it just sb.com that loads slow or other pages/sites as well?

56 k moden. It signs on quick enough. Its after the fact. |

It either three or four gigs of ram. I am thinking that more than one aol program was running. I deleted/reinstalled aol a few times. I just did it again, because a window came up and suggested I do that. It seems a little better. Windows explorer wouldn't be trying to load in the background would it? |

That computer should load anything you throw at it in no time at all. I suspect your 56k connection may not be able to keep up with all the web page content. Your connection speed could vary at any given time as well. Seems to me I had that trouble years ago when I switched my phone to cable. Dumped the 56k modem and went with cable internet. Don't know if I could trouble shoot that now its been so long since I used a 56k modem. You could try the Firefox browser instead of Internet Explorer. It's a little liter and may load faster:

Couldn't agree more. They take over a machine. Lose it and just access AOL through their website. Took me three times to get it all off my daughter's machine.
I also just changed over to Mozilla Firefox as my browser, due to all the security issues with IE. Much faster after getting used to it. |

If I lose AOL though and go to another ISP I have to pay for the one I go to and still pay for AOL. Its a vanity issue to a certain degree. My web address is Stripedbass@aol.com. It took me years of trying to score it. I think I may have solved some of the issue, which did relate to AOL. I had to load /uninstall 5 or 6 times. Eash time I uninstalled I left behind small aol programs which didn't uninstall. I did a search and deleted them one at a time and we are speedier here somewhat. I may have to grow up a little on this issue and venture forth. If I was using it for business at all I would have jettisoned AOL a long time ago. Thanks for the advice. |

Make sure you download a registry cleaner (like CCCleaner) and run it several times to clean up the junk that all those AOL installs left behind.
Keeping an email just cause you think it's pretty is pretty silly if you ask me.
Get a real ISP.
