Rocco - Redlite is on target with what he says. If you are going to fish, it is a lot of work. A good group makes a memorable trip for certain, but it is a lot of work. And when it stinks, you can't hop in the truck and move 20 miles....

Rocco, it's a great place to fish and any striped bass surf fisherman should experience it before they hang'em up. As some folks have indicated it can be like the "girl with the curl" ie, either very, very good or very, very bad! And , if it is the later, your trip will be less than memorable. That's why it's a good idea to go with a group. I've had some super trips over there. Some of the best fishing I've ever had, but I've also had a couple of stinkers. My companions made said trips bearable, even fun. But , when you go out there you WANT to catch bass. So be prepared, do your home work. Yes, to do it right, you have to do ALOT of walking. A wetsuit is the best thing to fish out of. I will NEVER do Cutty again in waders.Time of year is also important but even prime times can be disappointing. Fishing anywhere is a crap shoot but you have to go out there at least once. . If you would like some specifics, give me a pm. Good Luck! PS, you have to stay at the Cutty bass club for the full experience!

Rocco, by the way, Cutty is a small Island but it can handle alot of surf fisherman. Everytime I have gone there, there has been over 100 surf anglers on the Island. Yes , I saw people fishing but mostly right before dark and up to about 11:00pm. After that the walking took it's toll on alot of the guys as well as slow fishing and many packed it in retiring to the Club for drinks and BS sessions. This left most of the Island free to roam and most of the time we fished in peace. Most of the guys go to and fish the west end, which is a hike, or right in front of the club. Sometime the fish are in both places but they do move. If you like to move around and fish some great looking water, Cutty is the place to be. Believe me , I could not fish there last season because of medical problems but I'm OK now and plan on at least 2 trips to the Island in '09. I can't wait.

Redlite is right, Cuttyhunk is a dangerous place. You get all those Van Staals in one place at the same time and it is liable to flip over on ya. Be careful if you go.

I loved Cuttyhunk the one time I went, but the catching was not good at all and we went out there with some real sharpies. The fishing was really good though!
seriously though, some make it out to sound like 50's are just beaching themselves and redlite certainly made it look like that with his impressive skills this past year, but it seems to me the guys that are successful overthere (like Steve, Redlite, Afterhours) have been fishing it for years and years and have really gotton to know the place.

That said, it's a really really special place that I am dying to go back to, the entire experience is just awesome.

Exactly Not my bag and those aren't my hands You have to keep an eye out for those guys from CT. Next time I'm out there with those guys, I'm hiding my stuff.

Aah, forgot about that already. I recognize those sausage hands, must plan retaliation.

I'm no Cutty regular, but its no big deal, don't make it some mystical pilgramage, its not.

if next season pans out like last season, your better off getting a room at the YMCA in proidence and snag and drop pogies in the providence river.. you will catch 5 times more bass there than on cutty.
