The plug is sealed? Outside as well as inside. Never had an issue? A few of the plugs in my bag have seen 4-5 seasons, thousands of casts and lots of abuse and not even a hint of an issue. 1 plug was recovered from the waters of Cutty after 5 weeks of submersion.....no swelling, no intrusion and no cracking at the belly weight hole which, if the water had gotten in there most certainly would have shown signs......but did not! I think I have confidence in my method. To each his own.

5 weeks wrapped around a pot line beating on those rocks, paint almost gone, missing 1 eye but no swelling and no cracking!

I slather Devcon 2 ton on the walls of the weight hole. Install the weight and let cure. Then Oatey epoxy putty as filler. Sand to shape. Seal.

Thanks for taking me fishing Grandpa!

I put the weight in with epoxy
I assumed that sealed the hole.
Was I wrong?

I epoxy the weights in 1st, then Filler, then Sealer. Works for Me.

I usually pour in my belly weights, so I pour them, fill hole with spackle, sand, and then seal.

I seal afterwards. I hope that the sealer would seal the putty as well as the wood.

I seal before the weights and I use a water proof wood filler to cover the belly hole. Still might dab a little epoxy in the til weight hole.

Weights after seal with a little epoxy around them, except tail weight (no epoxy). Most of my plugs I individually weigh while test floating.

I prefer to weight em after I seal em.It has nothing to do with water infiltration.I use a five or ten minute epoxy to set the weight, then I will file/sand it down.I have found when I heat the wood to seal it it does things like raise or sink the weight amiking it uneven. Then I have to go through the process of making it neat again.

Yes Tony I have had the wgt. sink or raise too when epoxy sealing after the wgt goes in. Even worse with the propionate sealing method. But not a real big problem unless you are intent on hiding the wgt.
