Exactly what I was going to say. I'd call a rival agency and tell them exactly what happened and how it was spun that you're the bad guy. Then I'd tell them that they will be the only agency I spoke to for future updates if they reported your side.

Some reporters salivate at being exclusive regardless of what the actual story is.

I love this idea. In the current era of ratings wars, give another newspaper/tv station fuel to raise their reader/viewer ratings.
(Specify that the "other" story was skewed and twisted out of context, and you want to set the record straight.)
Above all else, make sure that you convey an air of "humbleness".
That may get them to push "them" as the bad guys and you as the "victim".

I'm sure your attorney can give you info. on eminent domain takings but generally it has to be done for a public purpose, can't be done by a private entity and requires that you be paid fair market value as determined by an independent appraisal. I have never heard of a taking of an "item" like a tree, etc. only property. That FMV would have to take into consideration more than just the wood value. Things like cost for replacement, impact on your property, etc. would have to be factored in.
