how many rods do you carry with you?
The distance thread got me thinking - how many rods do you keep with you while fishing? No general purpose rod/reel for me! If you're golfing you have a different club for different situations, so on any given trip to the beach (bottom to top) I keep 2 - 7' ultralights with 8 lb braid, one 8' light with 10, one medium 9' Arra with 17 and a VS for night beach walking, one medium heavy 10' Arra with 20 to horse blues though seal infested water, and 2 heavy 11' Arra's with 17 (40 shocker) for bombing it out there. If I'm going to flip eels I bring a 9' lami GSB with 17 mono to boot. That gets me to seven, sometimes eight. What you got??

Easy access spots like the canal I usually have 2. One for each weight range I'm using.
Difficult access areas like XXXXXX_XXXXXX or long walks its one 10' spinning rod for me.

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole
Where all the fish is blind

truck. And I forgot - before sand eels became scarce I'd carry a 11' bait rod too, along with a sand eel rake to boot.

what BB said. i always have 2 rods on me, my 10ft super surf and a 9ft loomis 1084 as a back up. if i'm walking a long distance then i carry both. if i can get back to my vehicle fairly quickly then i'll leave the 9ft'er in there. either way im bringing an extra rod( and spool) because i'm not going to pay 20 bucks for gas and 20 for eels and then get to a spot just to have my only rod break...

Depends where I am at. Usually, unless I'm planning on kayaking, and or driving the beaches, 2. Otherwise, 5.

Usually only bring what I am going to carry with me so one rod and my plug bag. Don’t really like leaving extra rods/plugs in my truck at night.

one, I can't imagine carrying two rods, where would I leave the other when I wade out on a rocky bar?

Usually four, one 8' Ron Arra for schoolies, a 9' Fenwick that's all around good mojo, 10' All Star for eels, and an 11' meat stick for heaving or kayaksting (this is at the Cape).
Around here, I use a 10' Conoflex Sorcerer for throwing chunks and the All Star for eels or plugs.

I can't imagine carrying more than 1 rod. My guess is that most of you with more than one rod either fish with a beach buggy or the canal with bikes? 1 rod for me. I fish on the move, lot's of walking and climbing.

It depends whether or not i am traveling in the "f$#@*$& fishing focus" or the ranger.
My brother's focus I can fit two rods easy. The 11'3" sticks right out the window. The tenfooter just inside.
In the ranger I can hide four inside on the underside of the roof, outside an infinite number, up to twleve. So that would be sixteen in all if I pushed it. You should see the friekin ranger when I drive onto the ferry in Woods Hole. More than one person has thought and said I must own a tackle shop.
I usually carry two along the @^$%* or down the beach.

Well, I don't know if I have the expertise to add anything to what 2na (Mike) has to say. But on the beach I bring at least 3 rods. 1) 10 foot conventional Lamiglas with an Abu Garcia 7000 C3 (or CL) with 20# mono (hate braid on conventional for bait) for casting bait (sand eels), 2) a 10 foot St. Croix spinning (up to 4 oz) with a Penn 750 with 30# braid for plugging when I need the distance and 3) an 8 foot St. Croix (up to 2.5 oz) with a Penn 460 Slammer with 30# braid when I want to walk the beach for a distance and want to conserve weight and energy.
So at least 3 on my truck at all times.

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

One for pluggin and up to 6 or 7 for backup - soaking bait - jigging or whatever. If I am hoofing it and away from the vehicle one is the limit excepting the ditch where two is a must. One rigged for tin/lead and one for plug.

Wow, I'm going to sound like a freak or something.
If I'm going down alone I take at least 15 complete set-ups. I keep my options open from throwing 1/8oz leadheads for weakies from a backside bulkhead to 12ozs and a bunker noggin on the front beach . . . and everything in between.
