That's what happens when you let a Westernized Iraqi ex-patriot (Mr. Chalabi), who also happens to be a con artist, influence US foreign policy because he's telling the neocons exactly what they want to hear...
...rather than go to a university and speak with some historians.
i.e. The Bush admin would have looked a lot different had they cracked a book once in a while, instead of just letting their gut (and God) tell them what to do.
