Girlfriend just walked in the door with a surprise, a UGSA10MH2S!! Very nice stick from what i see so far, 2-8oz thinking sweet spot will be between 3-5oz. I am thinking of pairing this up with a penn 460 or 560 slammer what do you guys think?

I have several of those rods with conventional guides, and it's a meatstick. I've never owned those reels, but you'll need something pretty beefy to balance the rod. You may even want to put some lead in the butt section. Off the cuff, I'd say a reel of about 25 oz. I have a Penn 6500 SS that would be a little small on that rod.

That will be a great rod for large eels, bucktailing, large plugs, etc.

With a nice rod like that, why would you want to put a Slammer reel on it? IMO they don't "cut the mustard" at all. If your funds are limited I would look around for a used 704 or even a 706. If you have the money, put a VS 200 on it and be set for life.

No boat, back in the suds.

I agree. I had the Slammer 460 and it had problems within 2 years. And I only used it on the boat and rinsed it with fresh water after each trip.

The only Penn spinners I've had that have lasted have been the older ones and the newer SSM series. Keep in mind that like anything else, you get what you pay for.

I had hope for quality change guess not. I have a 4600L I got from a friend and the live liner broke on the third eel. The metal on the body also corroded pretty quickly, besides that the bail and drag worked good tho.

What else could i throw on there besides a VS because that is way outa my range?

Put a 704Z on it. Best reel there is for the money (try eBay) Millions of them have been made and are in still in service. Some after 30+ years in the surf. Rise it after it gets dunked and clean the drag washers and you are set for a lot of years.

No boat, back in the suds.

I've fished a slammer 560 in the surf for 3 years (admittedly last year was more of a kayak year than a surf year for me) but still, never had one problem with the thing. I've had more issues with the 6500 that is evan a older made in the USA one. I try to rinse my gear after every trip, but that doesnt' always even happen.

i fished a 560 slammer last fall and took many waves over the head and had no problems. You wont cast across the canal with them but imho they are not bad for the money.

thats why they call it fishing not catching

IMHO, that reel is too small for that rod.
