My worst fishing trip was with my drunk cousin who's motto was, "If you can't tie a knot, tie it alot". He donated about $70 worth of MY pencils into the canal that day. He had never fished before other than freshwater and I should have known better...he also rendered a Penn 704 useless somehow that day...one of MY 704's..

Somebody just back of you while you are fishing is as bad as someone looking over your shoulder while you write a letter to your girl. ~Ernest Hemingway

First time I was allowed to go on my grandfathers boat ('Angler' out of Barnstable) for the Cape Cod Tuna Tournament at the age of 13 (33yrs. ago). I was doing the chumming and cut my finger tip off and wanted so badly to be there I just curled it up so no one could see but after about 10-15 mins they noticed the blood all over the cutting board. I begged them not to go in so they stayed and 30mins. later we hooked up and landed a 680lb. bluefin which I got to watch from the bridge where they made me stay. When we returned to the weigh in they told me I would have to go home and I could not stay for the next four days of the tournament, broke my heart but at least I got to see some beautiful fish. Many other events over the years but that one hurt the most. Even more than my knot (improved clinch) failing after 20mins. fighting a 4'+ striper at the herring run in the canal in the early 80's.
