Bring a light rod to go prospecting around Scraggy Neck, and a heavy stick because you're about 10 minutes from the Canal

Light to medium swimming plugs and some light jigs/metal for close to where you're staying, big wood and heavy lead for the Canal--and don't forget the 9" swim shads for the Ditch

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

Is it likely to run into some 20+ pound fish in the canal that time of year?

Very likely. Don't forget those 9" swim shads

Also, rigged plastic (Sluggos and RonZs) on 3-4 oz jigheads. White works pretty good in the spring by day.

Last year 3 and 4 oz Spro jigs in white/green were hot, too.

I'll be there May 16. It may be a little early for big fish . . . being that things are already a bit late over here on MV.
