I think its wrong to give up spots for a profit . why shouldnt we all do that .becouse we charish these places , we wouldnt give them up for anything , You dont feel betrayed when someone you tell about a spot who tells someone who will not appreciate it and tells everyone . maybe I havnt been burnt enough to be callus about it , If someone is generous enough to trust me with a good spot ,I would not give it up so easy . the mag is not like telling one or two people ,they probably have circulation of (Im guessing a million))A LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN TELLING A BUDDY..

Look at the bright side with spot burning. At least you know where everybody is and it makes it very easy to go to a place they are not.

I remember a few fluke spot burns last year. As the armada was tripping over itself trying to catch the last remaining fluke in the area I was a few miles away in a very productive spot that I had all to myself.

I had gotten one of those "fishing wisdom" type calendars a year or two back, and one of its "pearls of wosdom" was that if your favorite fishing spot is close to home, and easy to get to, than it probably has less than ideal fishing. In other words, to fully understand the art of fishing, you HAVE to get out of your "comfort zone".
I will, on occaision, pick a pond, or stream on a map and try to fish it. I have had some interesting results. For instance I found Trout Brook in Dover, Stony Brook in Weston and a remote stretch of the Shawsheen River in Burlington. These WERE all nice brook trout streams at one time.
(Don't worry, these spots have already been burned by Trouts Unlimited as well as New England Game and Fish magazine.)

As it has been mentioned earlier, most of the "crowd" will be inexperienced day-trippers that would NEVER think of fishing at night.

Spot gets burnt.Googy's (I am one) show up with snoopy rods(don't have one),bait boxes and bags,beer(need one) and a few dozen friends.They throw all the bait out on hooks.Throw the bags and boxes on the ground.They drink the beer then throw beer cans on the ground.If they do get a bluefish they beach it and leave it there.So they put fences up and no trespassing signs at that spot.So what if we lose more access to careless fisherman and people writing articles for business and fame.Nothing wrong with spot burning.Real time blitz reports and email and cell phone lists are better.You tell one buddy he tells his buddy he tells his buddy who tells his buddy who tells his other buddy's buddy who tells his buddy that runs the tackle shop who tells all his customers.See what I'm saying same as telling your buddy.Sucks your local spot got burnt.See ya there real soon.

So when you spend a couple of thousand bucks to take a fishing vacation to some place like Costa Rica, don't hire a guide. What does a guide do, besides give up spots for a profit?

And I'll tell you something else--if some guy offers me 5 Franklins to take him fishing, I'll give up every spot I know

The funny thing is that these spots, actually belong to everyone, those who fish and maybe even those who don't. I used to fish Jamaica pond religiously when I was a kid. I fished about 6 spots most of the time. If i got there and someone was in the one I wanted to fish I moved to another one.

Interestingly, the article on smallmouth fishing did'nt burn any spots. I have caught a lot of fish standing in the spot the author is standing in the pic. I suppose it's my spot.
Maybe some of it is up to the author?

the more important thing here is our right of ways to the shore line they in fact if nothing is done now they will be gone. And that is something we should be angry about..

Two solutions to this spot burning problem in magazines. Either move further down the beach. You know more than one person can fish there? Or go and fish at night. Of course if you go at 12 in the afternoon the beach will be mobbed.

I've only been shore fishing the last few years. It all started with stupid luck but over time I've put in time and searched the shore for sign and tried quite a few different spots few nights in a row some people told me about a buddy of a buddy some i read about Most i just found..

this my spot crap has to be the biggest pain in the a$$ for new guys on the shore..
last season I remember one night its about 11 -12 i was alone and hitting pretty well from the beach.. some older guy comes up behind me and asked "Hows my spot working out for you." I tried to be nice to the guy but the next thing i know he is wading out into the water in front of me.. and starts fishing in my line of sight.. I dropped my line around him a few times with a I was here first attitude.. but after a little while and some less then nice words I ended up moving down the beach...

We are all out there with the same objective. Very few shore fishers make there living at it. I dont see the point of all this my spot crap

I can see it from both point of views.. I gear up and get ready to head to a spot and I am a little disappointed when i drive 45 minutes to see someone standing in my foot prints from the night before, but i try not to let it phase me and move down the beach.. None of us own these spots.
If you ole dogs that feel you earned/own a spot. you should be good enough to catch near your favorite spot (share) or move on to another spot if some one beat you to it...

Also who cares if someone burns your spot take it as a compliment you figured it out a long time before the other guy.. You had your time there share or move on.
