Fish ID Question in Aquidnecks Island
Hey guys, I was out in Aquidneck Islands todya. i saw some brown fins on the surface and a swirl. My buddy and I aint sure fi it was a bass or somethign else. So anyone else can tell em what fish in NE hasd a brown fin?

flounder occasionally go to the surface... they are brown 
i caught one on a top water popper i made once
i was real surprised..at the time
water temps are changing... fish never seen this far north
on both coasts are being reported more and more... |

I have seen them 'finning' the surface on calm days in Newport...

skates finning? well it looks like a regular fish to me. it looks pretty big enough. I'm not sure if it was a weakfish or not

Depending on where you saw it Joe it could possibly be blackfish (tautog), too exhibiting pre-spawn behavior -
They do roll on the surface and do a little love boogie before bumping uglies - there's a couple of spots where you can see them rolling early in the morning and it's usually this time of year depending on water temps - I've seen it firsthand and a friend of mine is the retired principle marine biologist for RI - and he's confirmed it too in his research
That's why they close the blackfish season for June - so they can honeymoon undisturbed...  |

I don't want to disclose a spot, but PM me. Really/ Hmm, the spot has a lot of sands, seashells scattered, crustacean molten or discarded shells, and a few fish skeletons.
Speaking of bumping uglies, I saw a couple of raccoons having the most, passionate, aggressive, roughest, and intense mating session. 0_o??? It was in Tiverton. |

one time I was fishing in the sound and saw a school of brown looking fish on the surface,I throw a chunk and got a tom cod.

Could be, Joe - sand bars with cobbly rocks mixed in, mussels -
