Fishing with your kids just gets better and better and the excitement never fades. As they got older I just packed them up and off we went. Now dad gets reminded to make the reservations. We haven't missed a year in upstate NY since my oldest son turned 11...I figured that they were big enough not to be dragged in by a king salmon. They are now 33 and 27 and wouldn't miss it for the world. Of course dad added a new location a few years back...Wilderness Place Lodge in Lake Creek Alaska (wildernessplacelodge.com). My dad never made it to AK, a dream that he always talked about. My mom didn't want me to miss out so in 2005 she told me that I was going to AK "so make your plans". I researched for almost a year and found the above place and that was it. An 85-95 mile float plane fly-in from Anchorage into what really has to be God's country. There were days that you could not see the river bed it was solid salmon. A fish on every cast is not an exaduration. As luck would have it I've been INVITED to return this year and bring my boys at 2 for 1 for the silver, pink and chum runs. If there is a place that every fisherman should see it's AK...no not on a cruise. Get on the ground and look around you'll be amazed at what you see. For example, we stayed with a friend in Anchorage for a few days prior to our lodge trip and had a cow moose and a calf bedded down under my bedroom window. The bull would stand in the front yard just to make sure all was well. I had a great laugh with one of the signs in an Anchorage shop "Welcome, you've just entered the Alaskan Food Chain". The attached pics are just a sample of what you dads (and moms) have to look forward to with your young ones.
