Proof is in the Pudding
WOW! That is an old expression. Some of you may have never heard of that.
Anyway, once again for the fourth straight year the "Boston Harbor Shootout," longest striped bass winner 46 1/2 " was caught off of Gloucester, Cape Ann.The winninng fish this year was caught by Steve Corbett and his brother Matt on their boat "Osprey." These two brothers well known amongest the Gloucester fishing fleet, fish hard through out the summer for striped bass and they catch their share of giant bluefin tuna.
My hat is off to Pete Santini of Fishing Finatics, who is the top gun working through out the year tediously putting the Boston Harbor Shootout together every year. Next to the Striper Cup, Pete runs the 2nd biggest striper tournament.

Yes that is true.
Al Williams of Gloucester, who works a regular job during the day won in 2006. This guy divorces his wife for the summer just to fish for stripers.
And I will go a step further. I honestly believe that the new rule of that tournament," You have to come by boat to measure the fish no more over the road," is to discourage those fishing from Cape Ann.
That's only my opinon.

Well it IS called the "Boston Harbor" striper shootout
I doubt the rule was to discourage the cape ann guys. Fact is a tourney you can "drive" your catch to, You could bring bass in from New Jersey and no-one but you, and god, would know where it came from.
Peter runs a fine tourney. But the same guy taking it 4 strait years does raise some eyebrows and It's not just me who calls foul there. I know at least 1/2 dozen guys who opted out this year because of it. I could only imagine next year will be the same.
I don't know the winners from Shinola, but that IS the talk of the town.

We didn't fish it this year.
Pete needs to do some more "rule changes"
Change the tournament to a different time of the year should be one rule change.
Everyone knows 2-4th week of june, Stellwagen bank is LOADED with those big bass.

Not sure the point of handing out disposable cameras also
Anyone can catch a fish, (or pull an iced fish out of the cooler) run the boat to a location in the harbor and snap a pic

Yes it is ,"The Boston Shootout." Apparantly you did not read the rules, it is open from Cape Ann to Scituate. Why would you mention New Jersey? Maybe you should have said Stellwagon, anyone could have illegally brought one in from there.
Also remember one thing, "Nobody likes a winner."
If you had noticed, I gave Santini a lot of credit for running the Shootout.
As far as those not paticipating because of them expert striped bass fishermen from Cape Ann winning, the dropouts probably are not good striped bass fishermen.
