My plan is to catch the shore bass winner in the first couple nights, in time to weigh it in for SB for the cup, which ends on the 21st. (my bday) That way, I can sleep nights the rest of the week and chase the other fish.
19th til the 26th.....or 27th if I go commando one night... then I could say a quick hello at "the shack" before coming back to America...

Angry *&^%$#@##$%^&%

I've got tomorrow off to pack and make all derby preparations, leaving only Friday and Saturday to work before I head to the ferry. So there I am today, with 25 stops left on my route, when I notice the truck parked in front of my next stop has lights on. The mailbox is next to the road, but I went to the door so I could tell the guy his lights were on. I know there's a dog there, and I hear him barking, when one of the kids opens the door and struggles to keep the dog behind him. He thinks I am just there to deliver the mail so he sticks his hand out, and like a dumbass I go to hand him the mail when the dog pushes past him and puts holes in both sides of the knuckle of my casting finger. Of course then I ripped my hand away, to make the wound as big as I possibly could. Blood flying everywhere, kid runs in to get his dad, I call the PM and she comes and takes me to the hospital. They cleaned me up, gave me a tetanus shot and a scrip for anti-b's and I reported that it didn't hurt at all. 2 hours later and I can't do a F@#$$#* thing with that finger. Hurts to type, can't stick my hand in my pocket, I can barely click the left mouse button...anyone got any quick tips for casting with my middle finger?

Lucky Scotty

...and i am not kidding.

1...Get up early and call in the injury and succeeding pain.

2...You then go haunt your doctor to get two items.
2A...Item 1 is some extra strond topical anti biotic
2b...Item 2 is a note stating you will be out for a month.

3...Ice/hot and creme until that thing is working fine.

4....Go to Mv as scheduled

5...Call me from MV and extend your rehab for two more weeks
5A...I got room 9/27-10/4
5B...I can make you fit in a full house from 10/4-10/11

6...Call union and get short term disability going

Going over 9/26 to 10/4. Just changed return from 10/3 to 10/4 (why leave Saturday when you can stay till Sunday?). Tina (wife) going with me so we did a timeshare exchange into a small place in Vineyard Haven (but it is the Derby and being there is more important than accommodations).%$ Just found out Friday I have to go to Chicago for the day Monday 9/28 and booked 7AM flight from MV to BOS to Chicago(paying my dues). Will be off island one or 2 other days but will try to get in as much night fishing as possible (and maybe some daytime Albie, Bone and Blue time in as well.%$ Will bring the fishmobile (2 wheel drive) and fish a few spots accessible with it as well as looking to off set somebodies gas / Chappy Ferry and Beach Permit expense to get out to Wasque if (when) necessary.I learned a lot fishing with Patrick and several of the Shack folks (especially about fishing hard) over the last few years and look forward to seeing them. Truly nothing like fishing the Derby and though I look to relax and enjoy it the fact is fishing hard (really hard) to land the fish of a lifetime is a big part of the equation.
I have a few of my Big Fish Metal Lipped Swimmers (among my "go too's" ready to go along with several others including several of my Dad's Darters, new Long Pencils (as recommended by DJ) and needles. Also too many other plugs and plastics and metal to mention, but choosing the right one is part of the fun (especially when you choose right and nobody else has).
Good Luck to all.
Bill

Packing started. Going out to the boat tomorrow to grab any and all plugs, rubber, tins, etc I can find. Bringing everything. Except the boat.

So who is there this coming week? I'll be in white Tahoe with white bass in rear window.

Derby

I was there for a few days last week. The wind was blowing hard from the SW and made a lot of locations tough to fish. I caught 5 bass, none of which I weighed in. Tried hard for an Albie from Memorial Wharf in Edgartown but didn't manage to hook one. Saw at least a half dozen caught. Very crowded conditions there. Casting shoulder to shoulder into a hard running tide with the Chappy ferry running constantly back and forth. The day before I arrived a juvenile humpback whale cruised into the harbor briefly. It was seen by quite a few folks.

Enjoy the fishing. It is a spectacular event. I'll be going for a longer stretch next year.

I'm going to the Cape this weekend, any thoughts???? Thanks in advance for your response.
