thanks john for understanding my mistake. Still looking for info on freelining. Guys here wont talk about it. Cant even find info on google search. Hoping I dont have to cross up a bunch of lines to learn. Heres a little tip on shad that I just started doing 3 weeks ago. First off stress is started as soon as you net them. We net our bait out of different lakes here, than transport home to yard tanks 300 to 500 gals. For years I would loose 50% in the first week, rest harden up.Stay good for weeks. Heres my new recipe when netting for a 30 gal tank ------ 1&1/2 cups rock salt.
1/2 oz of ultimate or 1 teaspoon bait saver water treatment.
1 teaspoon of MS-222. this stuff is great, but not cheap. (can do a google search on ) Kind off gets them drunk to calm down. If not putting in a yard tank Start duluting out with water changes after a hr or 2. Theirs another product like it but I never could find. Well heres how it went.
3 weeks ago netted 84 5-6" shad. brought home, put in yard tank, only lost 2 since.
8 days ago thought I over did it since you should not allow but 1 shad per gal when warm, Pushing it at 2 per gal when cooler. I brought home 138 5-6" gizard & threadfins in 2 30 gal tanks. thought I would have a bunch of red noses when I got home, but all worked out well . Hav'nt lost a one yet. Water temp was 59. Dont know if you guys hold shad or not, but my 300 gal yard tank is a big plastic honey barrel that drains into a 55 gal filter barrel with a 5 gal filter bucket inside filled with charcoal & poli fill with holes in bottom. Than a 1200 gph pump taking water back to main tank with spray bar. All PVC. Barrels are insulated. Total cost to put together was less than $200. Dont use MS-222 in yard tank. & only 1/2 the salt you use on boat tank.
