I will write a letter, but to Roberts (Lt. Gov) not Carcieri. If I wrote to Carcieri, my letter would just blend in with the thousands of complaints he must get (he's a rich clown, at least its only 10 months till he's gone).

In Mass, a lot depends on what Registry branch you use.

I've never run into a rude clerk or spent more than 20 minutes before being called to the window at the Falmouth branch.

I hope they don't close it down the road.

RI has always been a fuster cluck. Even the NY DMV isn't as bad--average wait time there was 30 minutes or so, and they check all of your paperwork when you walk in and get your call number--if something isn't right, they let you know and give you the correct form or tell you what you need to get before you wait 30-45 minutes and find out at the window. The anticipated wait time is also printed on the ticket, and in most cases, the actual wait time is shorter.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

So I drove my buddy to his drivers test and let them use my vehicle.

Pawtucket is the only location you can take a drivers test in the entire state now, and scheduling a date takes forever. So you show up, and these guys are just standing around on the curb waiting for johns, um, I mean students.

My buddy picks one up and the guy is happy as a clam he's been driving for 25 years...less chance he's going to die.

During the test, he lists all the injuries has acquired over the years and tells of the times they get assaulted when they fail people. The state won't pay for police and the driving instructors aren't union.

I understand the cutbacks, but this is beyond pathetic.

Write a letter to the Gov, Lt. Gov and let them know that you are also sending a letter to the media (TV & newspaper).
Let them know that you aren't just going to take it lying down and that you want to let the public know what the DMV is doing.

This sounds like another case of a system that makes up it's own rules and enforces them without scrutiny.
I would be fuming if I were told that I had to pay for THEIR mistake!

Sounds like another one of your made up stories. Stop lying.

Lying is a pretty serious charge. Do you have evidence to the contrary?

I believe the part about a 44 year old having to go through the whole licensing process again. The part I don't believe is the part about you having a friend. Maybe there's a desperate aquaintance who might let you give them a ride after all their other options are exhausted, but I doubt even that. A round trip in a car with you from East Bay to Pawtucket might be more unpleasant than dealing with the registry.

I have lots of friends, some even walk on two feet. And there's always RIJIMMY...hell, he's got to get the bait on his hook somehow.
