Every year at Christmas my wife and I use the coin star and select gift certificates. If you choose gift certs from amazon, cabelas, bass pro etc there is no charge. If you just want the cash its like .09 on the dollar. At least a few family members a year get gifts from amazon that originated in the change jar.

This is exactly what we do. They have some good gift cards you can get. We usually do amazon. Not all machines have the gift card option and some have different ones so you have to do some checking.
Tagga, call a TD Bank in your area and ask if they have a Coin Machine, as not all of them do. If they do, it is free to use by everybody at no-charge.
No wooden nickle please.
I'm cheap so I roll quarters and dimes (free rolls from the bank), and then dump the pennies and nickels into the coinstar machine. To me, it is worth the 9% to not roll the small stuff.
The Middletown, RI Stop and Shop has one. looks like you just scan your stop and shop card and dump in your change. it says "no fee" but Ive never used it
