I typically start around the new moon in May or some time around the 15th, whichever comes first.
As for nature's indicators, forsythia is a good one and like all other plant life, it requires X amount of heating degree days to kick it into flowering mode.

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole
Where all the fish is blind

Have you seen how early the bikini's appear at sororities on campus......long before 1st fish.
You are probably referring to the beach bikini!

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

How about when I feel the strike on the line?
Or I could wait around and wait for someone or something else to tell me when it's time. (like my brother and cousin)
Nothing beats good old fashion "first hand experience"!

They were out on wollaston beach yesterday, almost crashed the bike a few times.
And now to top it off I'm covered in pollen and I just can't get it off me without professional help.

For me it's when the green buds show up on the trees. It's definitely a week or so early this year. That's when the BIG lakers are caught at Wachusett Reservoir. That's my Spring thing, not schoolie stripers.
Unfortunately the 'res is flooded this year and there's little shoreline, and none in some of the hotspots.

Just when the leaves start to pop green like Reebok said. Take a look around right now. Not all schoolies, mostly keepers too if you know the right spot.
