Aquaskinz Cobra Bag Review

let me start by saying I am in no way associated with AS and quite frankly am not a huge fan of them or their customer service.

This review is meant to help people looking for a new nice bag thats affordable.

OK picked up new As Cobra bag on sunday, have been fishing with it every day and night since, this is the first review Ill write and add to it as the season goes on. This is my first impressions of the bag.

I decided to purchase this bag due to the availibitly of it and cost. The Mak, Commando surfcaster and ebb point bags all look great, but next to impossible to get, high $$$ and no one I personally know has used them except for the MAK.

Drainage and soakage. The material sheets water away and the bag drains insanely fast, i dont have to turn it over like my VS bag after swimming to a rock. Might not be a big concern for most people but darinage matters to me. The material doesnt absorb any water, so no added weight and no worries about it dry rotting or staying damp and rusting hooks.

Storage. I decided to replace the 5 square tubes with the 4 large round tubes from the large hunter bag. I carry alot of bigger plugs and wanted the room. Its a tight fit, almost doesnt fit but two peole can make it happen, thanks Rudy. The tubes are larger and round always me to carry two large plugs or 4 to 6 smaller profile plugs like SS needles or redfins per tube. So I should be without anything I need. What I usually do is swap out plugs in the car from spot to spot or daytime colors to nighttime colors.

Bucktail pocket. This year its a personally goal to fish bucktails and strips every where possible. The bucket tail pocket in this bag is great. Its a seperate pocket and is located on the front, holds up to 4oz bucktails per sleeve. Again probably not a problem for most people but I like big stuff. easily holds two smaller bucktails were sleeve, so has lots of storage. The material is stiff and doesnt sag. Plus the sleeves are short so theres no issue of them sliding down to the bottom on the main bag. The side pocket for the strips/rinds is perfect size for the larger bottle. Velcro is very strong too.

Leader hole. Its a cool idea, one I may use doen the road. I usally pre tie my leaders so not sure how handy it will be to me. But if you tie our leaders on the spot its a great idea. I did try it out and it waorks great.

Inside pocket. its big enough for soft plastics, sluggos, swim shads, etc. But because i went with the larger tubes i wont be using it, maybe for snaps and swivels. With the square tubes it works great and lots of storage space.

Side pocket. Is big enough for a 20oz water bottle, it does stick up but its a tight fit so I cant see it falling out. I use this pocket for my waterproof camera instead.

Rings, shoulder strap and belt loops. This bag is loaded with them, a few are SS the rest are plastic. Nice to have them to attach my lanyard and camera too. The belt loops are thick and well constructed. The shoulder strap is wide and comfortable and big. Im not the smallest guy out there and easily fits me with tons of room to spare.

Other features I really like. The top flap has no pockets on it like the VS bag does. When i would put stuff in the flap pocket on the VS bag it would always bulge out and be in the way of the tubes, so Im glad this bag doesnt have one.

No side flaps, again I'm not a fan of them, i used to tuck mine in. So glad I dont have to to that any more.

The only thing i dont like is the weight of the bag. its heavier than my VS bag, but not a ton, Im sure ill get used to it fast.

There are some pics of the bag, and things I pointed out.

Pic 1: top flap, note the no pocket and lots of velcro.

Pic 2: Plugs and leader material spool.

Pic 3: pork rind holder.

More Pics

Pic 4: bucktail holder

Pic 5: water bottle, big plug out the top, that plug is 11"

Pic 6: Heres whats in the bag for plugs. This is a basic assortment of stuff I usually carry. Alot of the plugs I throw are bigger than average so you can probably fit alot more than me.

Not pictured are the indiviual bucktails, theres 6 in the bag now, assorted sizes.

Nice review Chris. Thanks for posting it. Hopefully you posted that on the swedge site. I see some points in your future! Good luck with the bag also.

On a side note, consider putting the water bottle and heavy jigs on your belt. IMO it's best to keep the weight off your back whenever possible.

Is that a Tiger Tackle lipless swimmer in the pic of plugs? Wondering what you think of it.
