North Shore reports?

No spots of course, but has anyone been doing well in the rocks of the north shore? I've been yakking on joppa the past couple weeks, but then got out last night in the rocks. Usually this time of year there are fish to be had, but not even a hit! What's going on?

There have always been fish when I've been up there but I haven't done anything for size. I have not thrown a live eel yet which might impact my results a little. No takers on riggies yet either. Almost all the fish taken at night have been on bombers, hellcats, and bucktails.

my first keeper this year, NShore or anywheres, was 6/10/10
a 28#er from my usual SPOT~~~ mixed in with a 16" and a 22"
last year same place, 6/8/09, a 20"er fell to a live eel.

they all 3 fell for a BBeach blk/silver conrad slopehead worked
slowly and wobbly in and out of the reefs, backside of the New.

soooo, that is way early for that spot and my pb for AYC.
since then, i've semi-pounded the OTHER Cape up until Father's Day to nothing over 25#'s and many feisty schoolies.
mostly eeeeels and the slopehead at night work for me; pencils, spooks, bottles, and danny's are gettin' 'er done for the 3 lights.

nothing LAHHHHHGE, yet!!! but they are out there, they's sum BIGGUNS to be had if ya know where they be havin' thum!
stay with it, gents. any NIGHT now, you could BEEE the report rather than chase it!! ALL it takes is one cast~~~~

Matt,
Use your head
Remember where you see me in the boat? Real tight, inside the rocks. Outgoing. Morning. Live. ....up to mid 30s#. Went through 12 baits inside of an hour yesterday AM.

Thanks Ross, trolled the chit out of that area with the tube and eels last night to no avail which got me really concerned.
BUT it sounds like I may have just hit it wrong, so I'll be back.

I was just hearing similar reports from other haunts, but doesn't sound like an issue from the sounds of this place.

I hit the area 3 times a week from the surf and though catching, the numbers have been dwindling. The usual spots are still producing cookie cutter 27-32" fish, but not the numbers I saw in weeks prior. I've Yaked the flats a few times over the past few weeks, with very little succses tossing sluggos.

The flats/estuaries seem very hit and miss for me. Sometimes lots of fish- and no bait, sometimes the opposite. I'm getting bored of all the mosquitos and no-see-ums...

Hoping they are out front, off the rocks!

It has indeed been slow in the usual spots at the usual times, including first light. The big moon and the warming water plus the abundance of baitfish (until very recently) have combined to put the squash on the "easy" fishing we were enjoying for the past month.

Time to think outta the box a bit. Late last week I found fish mid-afternoon at the end of a raging outflow. Yes, I had to drift herring chunks out to them but they were willing and hungry enough to eat. No slobs but a good pick of 26-30" fish. I think the fast water flushing out of a particular not-so-well-known cove had the fish in an opportunistic mode.

Gonna hit that spot again this afternoon or tomorrow and hopefully get out in the dark with the fake-snakes later in the week.

Also gonna radar-watch, try to time the arrival of any thunder storm as the bite sometimes will spike just before-during and after wild weather. Gotta avoid getting electrified myself though...

Tight lines fellow N-shorians...

I ended up finding some 25-32 inch fish on Sunday morning around sunrise , but it was still slow going.
This was after 4 hours of trolling an eel on Friday night for no fish! One of the guys in our kayak fleet got a real cow, but that was it all night. It was like daytime out there though with that moon.

I think it does have to do with all the bait in the area. The fish I did catch were all really FAT. Time to troll a sabiki and see if I can't get some macs to liveline

Macks are killer..... Have had a very good week. The fish I kept for last night's dinner had the one mack hooked in its throat, and two more in its belly...... No signs of pogies though. Gonna be a different game when the macks are gone.....

Yes, the sooner the fish spread out the sooner the surf guys can take over!
