I watched the video of the interview and have a few remarks.

1) I think I own that exact same sport coat.

2) This might not be as crazy as it first sounds.

The International Space Station is about the only big ticket space item on display right now, and it's a great opportunity to push Islamic nations towards inclusion rather than letting fundamentalist voices shelter their people from the Western world and the global community.

It sends a great message to people in countries like Iran who have a very strong educational and scientific background, but today have no way to apply it other than building secret nuclear facilities.

Certainly, more inclusion in collaborative international efforts means less energy spent on terrorism, oppression or other destructive work.

I'd say this is less about Muslim outreach and more a sneaky plot to subvert radicalized authorities and secure our long-term freedoms.

The ISS is our only big ticket display, remember, we can't do it on our own now (we're broke and getting more broke, remember? spending like drunken sailors - no offense to drunken sailors).

Meanwhile, China is planning appropriately for the moon while we can't even get back, let alone go beyond.

I'm all for Muslim OutReach and inclusion. Something squandered for some time now.

But NASA is the NATIONAL Aeronautic and Space Administration. Not the Muslim Feel Good And Science Outreach.

By all means get them on board, but we seem to spend our declining budget making nice - nice.

I think the feel good comment was just his lack of public exposure showing...it came off a little clumsy.

I'm not sure how much budget is going into this, it looks more like a glorified book tour.

spin, spin, spin

I just heard Obama's speech today...apparently even he has become extremely bored and uninspired by his lies.....

although, with each passing speech, he sounds more like a dictator... and much less like an elected public servant and temporary occupant of the White House

Just what I want! An olive branch extended to radical muslims and 'students' of Islamic nations to build a bond with NASA. Maybe someday we can teach those kooky Iranian kids more about rocket propulsion, turbo thrusters and nuclear lode delivery.

Let's just start them off with freshman level stuff like tolerance for other religions, maybe strip them of their indoctrinated hatred of all things America and convince them bomb plots in nations with democracies must come to an end.

At that point I might be alright with a few guided tours at out various NASA facilities and maybe a pair of clip on plastic wings for their lapels.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. ~John Buchan
