canal bike

It seems i have taken a bit of ribbing about my canal bike being a bit rusty so maybe it's time to retire it to the canal bike hall of fame or something. back tire needs air every time out, brakes almost work, it's old..........
I have another bike, I have a rear kickstand, but where do i find a front basket for this bike and an actual real behind the seat rack for the newer bike? I looked at Bennys and all they had were some cheezy rear rack that just cantelevers there behind the seat, I want one like I have now with the support rods down each side.
I don't want the 2 baskets in the rear, just one up front for Toto.

any suggestions?

thanks

I think I might have what you need - I'll check it out when I get home tonight - but its a heavy duty support that bolts to the seat pipe and has two supports down to where the rear wheel attach.

I'm surprised the front style is not the only style Benny's has. maybe look on line?

if you say so Paul, we were gonna tie it up in a tree down the canal

I was going to take the rack and rod tubes off it if I cannot find a decent one someplace.

I'll look online I guess
rather buy local though

Its called a "Bike Shop"! They have all kinds of baskets!! As for the air needed in the tire every time out.....ummmm....might not be the tire???

I was not ribbing you Slip....I just noticed how much "character" your bike was wearing!!! I like it!!! By the way....was that frame bent????

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Slip, When you settle on that rear basket, take a pic. I'm interested in seeing what you are talking about.

I don't want a rear basket Chris, only a front basket.

The rear I want only a rack, i then tie 2 pvc pipes one to each side

maybe I should post a pic of my bikes character

bike shop, ya we used to have one here in middleboro

frame is not bent
wheels aren't straight but who cares
for 20 bucks in a yard sale a hundred years ago, it's worked well for me
the patina is just right
but maybe it's time to be a bit more comfortable.

Gotcha. If you have that type of basket on your old bike, love to see a pic to get ideas of different styles. Not sure how happy I am with the paperboys on the back of mine.

The saddle baskets in the back are called paperboy or newspaper style baskets I believe. The front basket I have I got at #^&#^&#^&#^&'s, but it is not sturdy enough based on what you are looking for. Slip, You lookig for something like in the second pic?

Slip I feel bad now that I said some unkind words about your scooter. I do have the best of witnesses though, Slinger, Bigfish....
I think roping them along side the canal in the trees, (maybe they'll last longer there), is a great idea.

I was going to post here yesterday, but waited until now. You seem to be over the grief allready about deep-sixing your current ride in favor of a newer version though. Maybe we could have a sunrise service at the cribben for the old one out of respect for the bike.

it was the truth
I'm not too proud to ride crappy bikes

I used to drive a rusty old van with a extended roof camper top too before I got the white van everyone followed around, hard to hide with that...

thanks

the reason I don't think the double rear basket setup will work for me is that I don't use a rack to carry the bike, I just lay it down in the bed of the truck and I like to be able to close and lock my Roll'n'Lock bed cover since there may be fishing stuff back there, or there may be times I won't need the bike a particular day. So I am limited by the height under the cover, guess I should measure it and see what works.

There's a DIY television show I catch occasionally. In one episode, I saw a guy cut and bend a supermarket carriage into an electric wheelchair. I see those things in streams and gullies all the time - if cost is an issue and you're a DIY type, you might be able to turn the carrying basket of a carriage into a heavy-duty front basket without too much trouble.

Just found the TV show online:

Thanks guys
not sure what i am gonna do now

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.
