tog talk

so when we were coming in on monday we were talking to a group of divers and they said they have been seeing alot of big tog in good numbers in my neck of the woods. i catch them as bycatch once in a while while striper fishing, but most people don't target them up here. i may go looking for them on sat and see what's what. anyone been catching any?

my 1st wife didn't like me fishing so much

While trying to get pollock for tuna, I've been catching a ton of cunner, which are a cousin of tog. You get a 2 lb cunner on your sabiki it feels like a bluefish.

An SB tog rendezvous (in Buzzards Bay) would be awesome!!! I would definently go.

Frankly I find tog fishing a blast and I look forward to it every fall. I normally don't go though until the first week in OCT. Last year the comm guys flodded the market and it was closed by the time I got out but I went a few times rec. It was a blast, no one out there and the fishing was great.

Love tog fishin, but more importantly... love tog eatin !!

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day ...
show him where to fish and ... you'll be sorry

If this really materializes, and while I have some commitments to take my kid college visiting this fall, if it works out...I would be willing to take a couple SB'ers to experience the thrill of toggin in BB. I could swing into woods hole for a pickup.

I could take 2-3 leaving out of Fairhaven/New Bedford harbor.

I like 3rd week in oct because last year the run was very early...guys were killing them in Sept. My best trip last year I think was in mid Oct. Also, I find as the season gets later they move further out to the outter reefs. I was fishing at the mouth of BB in mid oct and it was great. The comm guys were fishing up near Cleveland Ledge in Sept and limiting out. Also there is a better chance for a half way decent weather day in oct, once Nov comes...you need to pick-em.
Frankly I think the hardest thing will be to get the weather to cooperate. when it is blowin 25 the mouth of BB ain't exactly pretty...I still will fish but you better bring your rubbers.

I like this thread...I ran down after a late dinner to check to see if there is any interest in this..

I'm in. Got boat, need a crew, PM me. Launch out of Fairhaven side of New Bedford Harbor.

Know the ins-outs of toggin from last Oct/Nov!
