ROAD RAGE

LEOMINSTER — Two vehicles burst into flames and were destroyed after an apparent road rage incident near 39 Maple Ave. Tuesday night, according to police.

Francis Freel, 25 of Leominster, was driving a 2007 Jeep, and Jaime Mustafa, 20, of Leominster, was driving a 1992 Toyota Camry about 11:45 p.m. on Maple Avenue near West Street in a residential neighborhood.

Mr. Freel alleged that Mr. Mustafa was tailgating and driving erratically behind him, according to Police Lt. Michael Goldman, so he slammed on his brakes.

The Jeep struck his car and immediately burst into flames, and then the Camry caught on fire, police said. Both men jumped out of their vehicles. The heat of the fires was so intense that a third vehicle parked in the driveway at 39 Maple Ave. sustained heat damages.

“They stood in the driveway and watched their cars toast,” Lt. Goldman said. He said the incident might serve to remind other drivers not to engage in road rage.

Both drivers were charged with driving negligently, and will be summoned to appear in court.

Deputy Fire Chief Gary J. Ranno said Mr. Freel and Mr. Mustafa were checked out by EMS, and both men refused treatment.

Chief Ranno said fire officials are investigating why both vehicles burst into flames.

serves them right

when someone is in a much MUCH bigger hurry than you

yield and let them pass and let them BE

it takes absolutely no effort to pull to the right and wave them to drive around the lead car...

but to purposely cause an accident by "brake slamming"
only escalates the situation bigtime

of course if someone is out to get you....
then its war... but i'd also be calling the cops

it's getting to the point that we all need video's running
so we have evidence for court.

It is unclear how the jeep struck the car when the car was behind the jeep.

If I pulled over to let someone pass every time a car was riding my tail, I'd never get anywhere. Everyone is apparently in some huge hurry. I typically drive a little over the speed limit. Someone rides my tail, I go at least 5MPH under.

11:45 at night? The Jeep owner should have stated there was a deer running across the road.

ramifications

there are "BIG penalties" to pay

for getting yourself arrested or in trouble

loss of license = no fishing vehicle transportation
jail time
fines = $$$$$$$
court fees & more $$$$ lawyers

loss of hunting privileges......
can't buy ammo

these types of things keep me from
not being a model citizen always
and giving "in" to road rage

i agree Tinman ,
not when yer 20 and a hothead

It takes even less effort for me to do absolutely nothing different and let them kiss my ass the entire way.

Not 10 min ago RT24 south:

Whitey (white panel van) stays in left lane doing about 55 max, speed limit 65.
6 cars piled up behind Whitey then the procession decides to go middle lane around Whitey on the right.
4th car in line, Red (red Dodge RAM) jesters to Whitey as he goes around. I'm #6 in line.

Whitey flashes the bird to Red.

Red pulls in front of Whitey (still in left high speed lane) and nearly slows to a stop before proceeding at about 40mph.

#5/#6 continue on our merry way but through my review I see Red/Whitey still staying left and having a good long ROAD RAGE.

Sorry Dad but that is exactly what causes ROAD RAGE and you never know who will pull up behind you.....BTW I don't sit behind guys HOGGING lanes but gladly will pass you on the right.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Driving 55MPH in the passing lane while in a 65MPH zone is just as unacceptable as driving 80MPH down the middle lane and then riding my ass because I'm only going 74.

The disgusting lack of consideration in all areas of society is depressing and, in some cases, down right danger. Phil, I'm sure you see it every time you are out in your boat. People drive their boats just like their cars - without paying attention or any consideration for those around you.
