We were on my girlfriend's parent's deck in those pictures. Her brother got the firepit for them at Job Lot over a year ago. I've seen similar pits at Lowes, Homies and Walmart.

You're exactly right, that's the Joblot special.Great pit for the price but you couldn't pay me enough to have it on a wood deck.
I looked at all the pits at Lowes,Depot and Wallyworld and all are complete junk considering the prices they want for them.
If you truly want a durable pit I recommend these you won't regret it:

Or a truck rim.

I saw them install something like that on This Old house.
I really like a deck item, not something in the ground.
Look's nice JohnnyD.

Makai,
Great pix. I was struck by the shot of the
fire pit and company surrounding it. My
initial thought was "What a great man-cave".
Any time you want to show me your man-
cave I will gladly accept the invitation.
Didn't know you were such a good photog.

The deck is made of that composite material, or whatever you call it. I think they put stone under the pit with a fire blanket over them to act as a heat shield. We've had some real hot fires on there with no problems so far.
I hear you on the crap they have at the big stores - thin metal and absolute junk. Probably only a matter of time before the metal gives away on those junky ones.
