The screws probably backed out because you washed your reel. The salts acts like a lock nut on screws , as does the green corrosion.

I had the same.I called VS and they sent me 3 new ones for free.I used a real light machine screw grade loctite.I walked into a few VS dealers and asked them only to get laughed at.They said " It's an 800 dollar reel we just send them back and they fix them".I said I'll take the screws off the dusty one thats been on the shelf for three years and they can get some new screws.Yeah that didn't happen.
