3 spots.... - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

Fished 3 different spots last night. After catching the hell out of ' em the other night things died down.....break/coffee between 1-2am then back out to my "go to" rock. First four casts= 3 fish all around 25-30lbs, then nothing.....1 hour later my buddy latched into a 37lber that took him for a ride. Not the large I was looking for but hey, very tough locating them every night. Heres one of the fish from last night.

Taking the night off and dinner w/ the wife. I think she is starting to wonder if we are married anymore. Not too mention I flat out exhausted.

I'm really starting to hate those rocks you are standing by. I printed out the rocks and am going to take my geologist friend from next door to go search them out today. Nice job

Fireman, you're too kind with your pictures, as much as I enjoy them and your stories,.... BE CAREFUL, some rocks...colors/formations/etc are somewhat identifiable. Too many details in your pictures for someone who should want to keep his spots quiet. Some places don't require a Geologist,,, Professor

I understand what bloo is saying although I have many spots where I fish and 10 miles of shoreline these "spots" are located on. If someone wants to try to identify rocks that I fish from pictures I post I cant control that. While the are anaylising, Im catching. Any/My fishing reports are stale anyway.........ever have someone tell you the fish are here or there and you go to that locale and get blanked? Fish have fins/tails for a reason. It happens time and time again. The only real way to be consistant in this sport is to learn spots/locations and fish them under a variety of conditions to narrow the times you spend there.

Example: Ran into a two wetsuiters last night.....never seen them in this/my area before ....one I think is a member of this site and anyone who went to striper-fest knows who he is for sure......not 100% sure, very dark at 1am...never met him before but enjoyed talking with him,nice guy.....many 50s under his belt.....they said they fished a spot.....one of my favorites, without a hit...1.5 hours later I visited this said spot....results= read above. Local knowledge has huge advantages. I am sure they seen pictures posted here and my location posted on my S-B profile.

Striper Haven: Please don't stop posting your reports as I find them inspiring, Although I'm a bit jealous I won't be trying to figure out where you are specifically. Just hoping I get a shot at them as they move south of you in my direction. Anyone who can identify those spots probably knows the area pretty well already. And no matter what you post here there will always be some who make you regret doing so. You are doing great and I wish you continued success.

What ever you do don't stop posting, I enjoy success stories even skunk stories, you found a sweet spot that is producing. anyone can fish a spot But knowing what stage of a tide to be at a certain spot is the key.

I wasn't serious, not my style. To be honest I couldn't be bothered to go chasing reports from people I don't know. Its your hard earned work and you should enjoy it. I was just kind of giving you a hint about what you may be in for if you keep showing the topography and it seems like you already found that out. Sorry. Live and learn. Some people can get pretty desperate, actually surprised you haven't seen a big fish skulking around. Don't stop hanging around. Just leave out the pics. We all know what a fish looks like. Most enjoy the stories, me included. Now go get another and if you see anyone around you don't know , no matter how nice they are, play stupid. It works every time. P.

Fireman, I meant no disrespect. Don't be "done" because of something this cranky crab typed. I enjoy reading AND seeing your pics. I prefer reading posts from humble fishermen, I don't really care for the movie-stars.

I just don't like seeing decent people get burned. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure things out sometimes or come relatively close. If you're serious about the wet-suiters, was it a coincidence?

Anway....I dont own the rocks I fish, so its open game to anyone who is dedicated enough to search, find and land bass should they find any of the spots I fish. Anybody can go out at 2am and chuck eels into the water and find a 40#er on the end of their line. Landing the fish is another story. That being said....if someone is intentionally following me night after night thats a different story. I dont know any of you from this site,other than seeing pictures and reading your story's. Been a member here since 03' and posted a few times but never posted pictures of large fish I caught in the past. And there has been many. I prefer to be a "lurker" and enjoy this site very much. This year obviously has been different ,and I felt like I would share a few with you all.

The person/wetsuiter I met the other night has been confirmed through a message I received last night. I dont know him personally but I do know he fishes very,very hard and has many large fish under his belt. Not because of his "movie star" status, but because he is dedicated to catching large fish and earned that status because of this dedication and fishing ability,which I admire. Accolades come from hard work and a by-product of that hard work is publicity, particularity if your catching stuff that folks fish all there lives for but come up empty.

I fish hard and this year I thought I would share some of my experiences/journeys with you all. Even if the pictures expose one or two of my spots I think it was worth it as I get to share some of my accomplishments/disappointments....this sometimes can be a lonely sport. You all seem like a good bunch and we all enjoy something that has become sort of an addiction for me.

Some guys are better at it than others. It is more than putting time in.

I work off-and-on on draggers. This past spring I was asked to fish the spring squid run down off Charlestown Ledge in RI. The guy I fished with has great fish sense--meaning we out fished all the other 25 draggers that were fishing around us for the month of May. Now you'd think that any monkey could set and tow and otter trawl across the sea floor. Wrong. Same with plugging or throwing eels or chunking. This dragger captain is good because he knows all about the squid but he really knows what his gear is doing on the bottom, the net and door spread, the size of the net compared to the size of his engine. On any given tow we'd catch 1000 pounds of squid for a 2 hour tow and the boats right to us were doing not even half that. Fishing is cool that way. In theory, fishing seems simple. And some days or nights it really is simple. But when the fish are spread out--or with squid when there "off bottom" then it really takes a knack to find 'em and once you've found 'em to stay on them.

Great job whoever you are. I'm the type of fisherman who knows more about fishing than catching.

Where's my fame? I caught 30 fish last night and not one broke 15 pounds. Most were under 5 pounds. But my thumb is sore. And some of those fish may grow as this day wears on. Hell, I might make that 15 a 20. And the schoolies will all become borderline keepers, "just under."

I fight forest fires and travel around the Country doing so. Most times of the year I am busy as heck, from instructing at fire academys in AZ and CO, fighting fires and I am in charge of most of the Prescribed/Controlled burns here in the state (state forests,etc). The fall (Sept-Nov) are usually slow until December when Southern Cali. gets their Santa Ana's. This time of year I take most of my vacation and comp. time too fish and a few days to bow hunt.

the Santa Ana winds are no joke in SoCal. i used to live in Arcadia and worked in Temple City for a coupla summers. i've never seen anything quite like the San Gabriel Mts on fire at night ,,,,,,for nights on end,,,,, as you see it from the Foothills area just beneath them.

New to the surf this spring, find all stories inspiring. Keep it up. I have had great success in fresh, tournaments, etc, but know that you gotta pay dues.

Everyone I meet at night is friendly and helpful. Keep up the "inspiration" reports. It will keep more people fishing, and fighting the commercial folks....

Thanks but not posting any more pictures unless I get that fifty.Came awful close this morning.Seen a few folks I have never seen before very,very close to one of my spots around 5am. They were way late to the bite as the "work" was already done and over with.

But now they probably know to be a little earlier tomorrow if they're reading this. Hopefully for your sake it's not a pattern or the bite dies off because it will be so close to daylight tomorrow. You talk a good bit for someone that "likes to fly under the radar". I came close to breakin' 50 doesn't sound like the type of thing someone who tries to be on the DL would say.

I don't agree with chasing reports or fisherman. There is no fun in that for me but I'm damn certain it happens.

Just amazing results btw! Getting those fish over 45lbs is a big deal. It's amazing how much bigger they are in comparison to the ones that barely break 40. The 45+ fish are true cows.

It is one thing to get a call from a buddy and go fish a hot bite.And certainly the posts and pictures get a lot of attention and interest.To actively pursue somebody's hard work and bite is another entirely.No big surprise you had company as some will stop at nothing,even if it is a case of taking advantage of anothers hard work.Next year,I would assume you have company that you did not invite.Expect a crowd,because of publicity other areas are now over run.

the worst thing I ever did on this site was post pictures of fish. I was harrased with PMs from all kinds of people and I was in a BOAT! Makes no freaking sense. We're fisherman!
This guys having a great year, posting pics of fish with rocks in the background and you have some sense of the area he fishes and he is getting grief for it? There are many, many pics from some of the respected anglers out here of fish in the canal and NO ONE gives them any grief. Year and after year. Give it a rest.
