It's probably the MSG. Ask for it w/o or find a place that specifies it's MSG free.

ya know how ducks like wild rice?
well birds won't touch white rice PERIOD
and i firmly trust their judgment...
now...ya take some chicken leftovers that you just
picked all the meat off
and the birds will ravage it .....
anything fried ....especially in a batter
has rendered it basically indigestible
and while it tastes good ,,,it isn't good for your system
and your body EJECTS it the next day
viciously

Most chinese food I see people order is full of deep fried crap coated in 100% sugar sauce. People always blame MSG, but you'd be suprised how much MSG is in a lot of the food you order from all restaurants. I'd blame the high fat, sugar and oil. The chinese food around here is made to sell to white people. White people like fried stuff, then coated in sugary sauce. My wife is 100% Chinese and never heard of a pu pu platter until she moved to the east coast. Im not kidding that when we moved here from CA, we ordered Chinese food about 4 times from different restaurants and threw it away after a few bites. Its really hard to find good, authentic quality Chinese food, unless you're in Chinatown in Boston, NYC.
Next time, avoid the fried stuff, avoid the General Gao's, sweet and sour, or other items - most menus have steamed dishes, or stir fried dishes, not deep fried. You'll feel better later, trust me!

Jim, try Alice's Mandarin Taste in Sharon. They have lots of steamed dishes and stir fry on the menu. Very good compared to anything else you get in the suburbs. There are still a few good places in Chinatown, as well.

I'm surprised you didn't like it more. I'd give it a B+ based on the experiences we've had there, although it's been well over a year since we've been. We don't do much Chinese food anymore. I like it, but Sheri isn't a big fan unless it's real authentic. We like to go with Thai from a place in Randolph if we're in the mood for Asian cuisine.
