My rides are ancient history.... long before videos and interblab. If you don't know the players, no one cares....

I dunno, not much needed to know for backstory on Circus Maximus.
Other than the boat was certainly good at destroying crew (and killing one) and saw 30's going across the Atlantic. And that was 25+ years ago!
Nirvana is over at NEB if you want a blast from the past.
Shindig has some great stories from her past.
She's been to Hawaii, spent probably 5-6 years total in the Carribean, did a stint in the Med etc. Been a long 16 years she's been sailing.

Well, Circus and Desparado are at the bottom of the Atlantic.... We were nothing more than glorified test pilots, or test dummies. The designers would come to the dock or yard after we came in to see what we had broken, which was our hidden agenda. (Being young, I thought they had a high opinion of our skill...) Tanton, Pedrick, Frers, Chance, they all wanted to see what would really hold up outside of the test tanks. They knew the designs would work, but that the materials might not. So, take the boats to the limits, repair them for a race, get provisioned, pick up the strap hangers, race, repair, start over...
But we were good at breaking boats... dropped rigs, dropped keels, broke rudders, ripped sails, fractured hulls and sunk one. You guys are reaping the benefits of our pushing the limits of what we had available. None of them were all around boats. But we did have a lot of fun.....

Don't worry, we're still breaking em.
"Hmm, thats interesting." -one of the Harken boys on us destroying a main traveler car. Can't imagine what the side loads were considering what the car and ball bearings are supposed to be able to hold up to.
