I have both the 30-H and the 30-H LW. I think I have one red block in the 30-H, and the LW doesn't have a braking system out of the box.

I find both reels to be very controllable. I doubt that I needed the one block in the non-levelwind. In real-time fishing, you often need a little thumb control even if you set your brakes. Switching lures with different aerodynamics, having gusty wind quartering at you, the occasional bad-form cast that causes your lure to tumble, etc.
