Knot for Thick Mono Leader

Uuuugggghhh!!! Lost a $40 ubmrella rig due to a bad knot! I'm using 80lb mono leader tied to a swivel on a lead line rig. Snagged some seaweed and bang - lost the umbrella rig. I had tied an "improved cinch knot" - but with the thick mono - it's kind of tough to cinch it up well. It must have worked itself loose - because I had pulled on it as hard as i could and it held.

Any ideas - what knot would you use in this instance?

Thanks
Dave

I use the Trilene knot, it hasn't failed me yet. Here's a link on how to tie it...http://www.tnoutdoorsmen.com/knots.htm

I usually use a palomar to tie on swivels.

Palomar although I would hate to try to loop the rig through it.

How about a palomar to a barrel with a snap or connecting via a split ring to the rig?

Good luck,

Crimped sleeve for mono from 60-200.is as strong and makes a smaller connection. From Mark Sosin and Lefty Kreh book Practical Fishing Knots.
