Yea, I put that Thule rod thingy up and it makes a ton of noise. Hopefully I actually use it and get used to it...otherwise I'm packing it full of dog crap and burning on Fishbones front door step.
Already have the dog crap ready to go.

No Larry ,, I had the window up .. I drove a bud to M&D's today and he said "What's that noise ?" I was only going 40 at the time . It's a lower pitch roar noise . Kind of a bummer .. 2010 explorer .. First time I've ever owned a vehicle that everything wasn't rattling . The cross bars are round .. Can't be that . The risers that clamp to the factory rails are hollow .. Sealed with covers on the outside but may be open inside .. I'll investigate . They look nice .. may be in need of duct tape ..

Comments about Yakima 44" Fairing:
After purchasing my rack system I was amazed at how loud it was. Shortly after I purchased this fairing. before at 40 mph it started to whistle and produce awful noise. After I got the fairing I have been up to highway speed and I can't even tell it's on there. It has done way more than I expected it to do.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I find it hard to believe that anyone who uses the term "rod thingy" would go anywhere near dog crap, much less put it on my front door step.

Sorry about the late reply... OK WICKED LATE!
Anywho, if you take a bungee cord and take 3-4 turns around the load bars and secure it on both ends, wind noise is all but eliminated. Cost me $1.50

I have the flaring on my odyssey.. zero noise. I drove a full tanks worth of gas in my van last week with my hobie on the rack and saw very little difference if none at all in MPG..

Yeah the fairing is the way to go if it bothers you. I only have the cross bars (put the yak directly on them) and the noise ain't bad at all. I do remember when I used to have my bike rack or ski racks on it would howl like a lone wolf!

totally, yakima and thule basically have a duopoly on this market. REI has 20% off sales a few times a year, I think there is one going on right now for mem day.
