GGE is awesome for scouting - Here's some of what I use it for:

anticipating how different wind direction may push water down the coast and create ambush points.

locate parking areas and potential access points to hike from.

Click on the tack feature and drag it to a point and you can get the GPS numbers to plug into a hand held.

large area tide flow analysis - example - on the drop tides, when all of the water empties out of an area with many very large salt ponds, where does all that water go?

Depends on when the area was photographed but you can sometimes locate bottom structure on long stretches of sandy beach that may hold fish.

The ruler tool is very accurate and you can set it for a path to calculate hiking distance - I use it for work to map out long fiber optic cable runs etc. It's also great for mapping out kayak trips with distances from entry to exit points. I run the path ruler and print screen it. I have attached an example.

This is the water body behind M&D's.

Surf Caster,
Send Sandman (a member here) a PM and ask if he has any DVD's of his Cuttyhunk Calendars left. He produced Fishing log calendars at one time and in 2008 had one made of Cutty images. He also produced a DVD of over 100 Cutty images in very high resolutuion. Photos were so detailed you could find the rock perches to stand on.
