I'm about a 1/4 mile from the river and have an uncontrollable fly problem. Didn't know if it had anything to do with the water. Put out fly paper and it has 40 flies in 30 min. What else would draw these suckers in? I actually searched for a dead animal under the deck or something like that....nothing. Puzzled!!

When the early AM storm came through, I put my foul weather pants on. Realized I was not getting them biting my legs and ankles when the storm passed, so left them on. Was happier being a little warm than getting bitten... Lots of talk about them on the radio....

So no one got a cure ?
Got an offshore tuna & ground fish trip sat with guys that been out with me last 5 years.
Great guys but the kind of group that brings bottles of hand sanitizers and their own towels for when they touch a fish.
The flies should really go over well !
I was planning to anchor up and bait fish for the ground fish.

I was hedge trimming yesterday and even with bug spray, I was getting nailed every couple minutes and those damn little bastards aren't easy to kill. I don't ever remember them being like this on land, sure I've dealt with them on the boat for years, but I can't recall them being this bad miles from shore.

My Son in law wears the propane Thermacell when bear hunting in
Canada. Swears by it. Says they would carry him off without it.
Cabelas has them.

I've found Cutter Advanced the best for green flys fishing
the beaches and back bays.

If fish blood is attracting them I would try a Jomax/Bleach mix in a small
sprayer in the fish box and sorrounding areas, then rinse good.

Try using Bens ,comes in an orange bottle. 100% deet keeps all bugs off. Some people say it kills ya liver. As long as the bugs go first i'm cool with it!

It was like a mass exodus off of Rce Point last night after 6pm. They were a pain all day but got rediculous @ 6. I think thry are stable flies. If you notice, they tend to go for the ankles, where horses and cattle would not be able to use there tails to knock them away. That is scary trhey were so far off shore.
