the piers in mattapoisett seem to be the winner. i'm not familiar w/ the spot so someone answer a few questions. plenty of parking? access to bathrooms? just in case. do the piers have railings or are they more like comm piers? we should probably give the harbormaster a call and just clue him in that we are invading the pier

Parking on the piers are supposedly for residents only w/ sticker. If it's a busy weekend they get a bit snitty. But there is plenty of street parking. There are restrooms at the Harbormasters shack, no railings . No sticker needed for Ned's point and there are picnic tables and such. Buzzards Bay Anglers Club holds their Scup Cup on the pier every year. We are trying to do it again in Sept this year - watch for it in club announcements.

If interest in getting some groups up to Boston harbor I would be willing to help out with my boat.

I too would be willing to help out with my boat if we have groups near Pt. Judith. Carpenter's bar, near the Ocean Mist usually holds scup at high tide this time of year. You might want to wait until after Aug. 7th when the limit goes to 40 fish per angler on party/charter boats. At today's 10 fish per angler limit no one is fishing for them.

So, are we in for Mattapoisett? Date?

As I mentioned, I spent many years there as a kid fishing these piers and would love to share it with my kids. It would be nice to meet some of you guys as well.

Some recommendations:

There were always plenty of snapper blues on the top pier in the photo. This one has a wall to keep the shorties from falling off the pier. We used to use bread and a piece of screen to attract and catch silver side minnows then live line them on a bobber.

The long middle pier probably fishes better but I would definitely recommend life jackets as it's a long way down and a long swim to an easy exit point - trust me, i did it - once...

The other two piers were always too convoluted to fish - either boat rigging in the way or crusty old boat owners not wanting kids fishing around their boat. They didn't allow fishing from the floats for sure - I met the harbor master a few times over that one.

I say we pick a date and have at it. Not sure of bait shops in the area. It's probably best to just bring some worms and squid strips from your local shop.
