Let's see if my little note on the Cup's Facebook wall stays up.

JUST another reason TOURNAMENTS SUCK >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BUT IMO ITS a stupid move on there part ....I,ll bet there are a bunch of fisherman will tell them to stick it next year .
But the rumors I,ve heard on a proposed reduction [changing ]of bass regulations ....may signal the end of the useless killing

ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE !!!

It appears to me that OTW has finally shot themselves dead with the Cup. This is a inexcusable. Now we will have recruiting, payoffs, etc.

Seriously, I joined the first Cup in 06 because I thought it would be like the old Schaefer Tournament that I fished in the 70s. This will be the last year they will see my money. It just has turned into a joke.

No boat, back in the suds.

Well, Paul, we have that already, in the off-season.

I'd really like to think that OTW would have a problem with guys switching sides after the fact. Going from no club to club? That's one thing, but even so, there should be a cut-off point. I don't think that anyone at OTW is debating that Greg was still unaffiliated when he weighed in his two earlier big fish. Weigh one fish in, that's it. You're committed to whatever status you had at registration.

As far as the Schaeffer Cup goes, just thinking back on the history of the Striper Cup, I don't think that a legitimate "club", as most fishermen would define a fishing club, has ever won it, and that includes us. RISAA came the closest. Anglers join established clubs for a variety of reasons, competition being only one of those.

IT is becoming like the old Schaefer Tourney. 1) Commercial fishermen/charter captains dominated the Schaefer. 2) Teams openly recruited & re-aligned (see history of Sacco, NJ Red Devils
and a few others) 3) There was constant adjustment of rules in response to never ending complaints and controversies.

I think OTW is doing a good job.

Care to share it for those of us not signed into the social network sites?

Here's Mike's quote, well put as usual:

With all due respect, if it's true that Greg Myerson was allowed to join Team Striper after not registering as a club member initially, your tournament has lost all credibility with a lot of anglers. The rule is pretty clear: Upon registration an angler must declare either a club affiliation or no affiliation. I see nothing that allows an "undeclared" angler to declare an affiliation with less than a month after the tournament.

In the past, we have had a couple instances of anglers go from undeclared to Team S-B at the early part of the tournament and well before fish were weighed in. So there is some precedence. I'm sure other teams have hit people up over time too.

I guess my question would be more when this occurred. Early in the tournament I don't see an issue.

I don't know, but his earlier 61 and very high 50 aren't in the total for TS, and he's not listed as affiliated for those fish in the Angler of the Year standings.

Let's say, best case scenario, he decided to throw in with TS before he caught the record. It still sets a bad precedent. This isn't pro sports, where teams can trade up to a trade deadline. It allows for a team that's lagging in the standings to actively recruit. If someone can be unaffiliated and join a team in mid-tournament, what's to stop someone from switching teams? Or other teams from raiding other rosters for the last big push?

I agree - our instance was when someone went from unaffiliated to Team S-B - not switching teams. And those instances happened very early on in the tourney.

Early or late I don't see where there would be a difference. As long as it wasn't after he caught the 81. I spoke with Greg at the cup last year and he had already said he would join Team Striper this year. Apparently that was the decision he made, much to the chagrin of other teams.

I enjoy the party and talking with folks I don't get to see too often but I too think the tournament is lacking in some areas.Art, tog are showing, see you at the Eddy.
