It wieghed 40.6 lbs on my berkley ditgital scale, 45-1/2" long, 27-1/2" girth.
Yes, caught with spinning gear in the canal at mid stage of the current, luckily with the SW wind the west running current was not as fast as usual.
I fished a few hours at the begiing of the west tide with Saltheart,Smokey and Got Stripers , it was dead at first but at 11 when I was about to leave Saltheart proceeded to school me on his spot as I was overcasting my jig and he was nailing decent fish in closer. I moved to another location and Bob followed not far behind me. 2nd cast and I hook into this fish and it is taking drag more than usual. JJ18 says to me, ya these fish in the rip have shoulders. And the bass starts rubbing in the rocks trying to bust off but I tired her out and won the fight before my 40lb leader broke. Funny thing was that earlier I had a jig break off and was too lazt to put a new leader on so I tied the new jig direct which I never do. I was very worried about that knot the whole fight. When I saw the size of the bass once it got close, I knew I was close to 40 lbs.
The bass had 2 small lobsters in it's belly, so anyone who thinks jigs don't catch large fish is crazy. I caught it on a 4 oz ball type jig I got from mr.pogie and I painted it white and tied it with white bucktail and red thread and I dressed it with red pork rind (=lobster)
My sister in law had a huge smile on her face when I told her I had some fish for her, she loves fish.
about those shorts, I guess I should toss out my old clothes huh? You guys don't miss anything, what can I say, it is laundry day
Anyway, that's my story.
a while later after putting the fish on snow I got a nice 25 lbder on a skinjig while GS pouted and called me fish-hog
I was just lucky to plant my jig in the right spot is all.

Thanks everyone.
rocketman, what boat? I was standing on the shore along the Cape Cod Canal tossing jigs into the middle and bouncing the bottom. BTW I am building a boat, how'd you know?
But I didn't build the rod Breakaway did.
NIB, come collect it

Slip, you definitely deserve to get hazed for those shorts! Those are one of the few 70's styles so bad that they haven't come back... thankfully.
That's a great fish... definitely a pig. Congratulations.
For all the newcomers out there, this guy is a perfect example of what it means to put your time in. I met Bruce a few short years ago and neither of us were all that experienced in fishing stripers.
I've never seen him ask for directions to a spot... all he's done is quietly worked at it and has become a consistent lunker man every year.
Good job.

Congradulations....
Congradulations on a great fish. Breaking that 40 lb mark is a memorable milestone. Keep on jigging and I see a 50 lber in your future. I had just about given up on that east end rip and now this happens. More sleepless nights are coming up....
