2am:

Those two brothers from Central mass and that dude from the Bronx were DOING WORK back there! I walked back there yawning no rod in hand, and I believe his name was Frank, thought I was Billy the mate and he asked me to gaff his fish for him. I grabbed the gaff set steel just behind its gill plate handed him the gaffed fish and ran inside to grab my bait rod!! As I ran inside all I heard was ssssshhhhh shhhhhh whisper whisper.. chuckle chuckle.. They had closed the door to the galley so you couldnt hear any fish hitting the deck if you were racked out inside.

12 yr old capt. son had luck on the troll and got this Wahoo. We got back to the dock they weighed and measured it for a state pin. Then they shared a piece of the wahoo with each of us

Blonde Terror: this was the longest and heaviest fish. Aside from the tiger sharks these maniacs were messing around with all night

Helen H party boat canyon trip

Like to thank Paul (Niko) for organizing this trip. I’ve done some inshore party boats trips and really don’t favor them but since Paul pulled this trip together, I said wth, I’ll give it a try. Well, if ever a PB trip could be “EPIC” this was the one, must’ve been all the S-B mojo onboard.

It was a real pleasure fishing with Paul, Victor, Keith, Buzz, and my friend Bill and his son Billy. I didn’t get some pics of Keith and Victor’s fish as they were on the other side of the boat when they hooked up. I'd fish with these guys anytime.

The Helen H Capt. Joe Huckemyer did an outstanding job putting us on fish. Also running around the boat gaffing fish, not many PB capts doing that. His chief mate Matty ran the pit like a well oiled machine. If you ever want to hit a canyon trip, go with these guys.

Here are some pics :

Our illustrious leader putting some heat to the fish

The pool winner I believe

Buzz’s long fin

One of mine

Billy putting some heat to his big one

His 65 lber

Matty –chief mate, guy’s a well oiled machine never slept till the boat was spotless and steaming back

What an incredible trip! The SB guys were amazing in both their ability to catch fish and camaraderie. I can’t remember how many times I thought, “It doesn’t get any better than this”! Paul and Bill Jr. landed the two biggest yellowfins, both over 60 lbs. I think we caught like 70 or 80 total yellows. The Wahoo in the morning was the icing on the cake. Everyone was ecstatic for the 12 year old that landed that 70 lb monster.

The Helen H crew and boat were fantastic. These guys understand how to run a party boat and service the customers. If you asked a question, they answered it, if they didn’t know, they found out. They put us on the fish and kept us there. And when Bill Jr. hooked into his big yellow and it dumped like 300 yds in the first couple minutes the captain said, “All lines in we have a big fish on” and he revved the engines and chased the thing down with Bill Jr. ultimately landing the fish on the bow, 100 ft from where he hooked it.

Fishing with the S-B crew was awesome! I felt like I was fishing with boyhood friends. We were all there for each other when needed and had an absolute blast. I forgot my heavy swivels and Victor handed me a package. I took one out and tried to give the rest back and he said keep em, I have plenty and you’ll need em. Thanks Victor! I had a minor miscue during a lull late night and ended up with a bird’s nest on my main rod made of my brand new 130 lb mono (just spooled by Pete Santini at Fishing Finatics. Thanks Pete!). Buzz sat with me for quite a while and helped me pull it out and we saved ALL the line! Thanks Buzz!

Paul, can’t thank you enough for putting this trip together! I echo Fish for Striper. I would fish with these guys and do this again in a heartbeat! Here are a few of the pics that I got. Individual e-mails will follow.

thanks to everyone for coming. you all worked your asses off and it paid off bigtime - it was truely an amazing trip with a great group of guys. we will make this an annual trip - maybe next year we will book the boat for ourselves. i'm pretty banged up. the biggest of the tuna on sat thumped my hand pretty good w/ it's tail and it's pretty swollen still and i've lost some mobility in my thumb. my wife, a nurse, thinks it may be broken. a few great trip memories - victors neverending ear to ear grin, me ruthlessly busting kieths nuts that he could not land the unknown beastie and as soon as i had the rod turning to him and saying "i take it all back", everyone cheering on tyler (captains 12 yo son) while he fought his first tuna, the terminator brothers john and frank- the 2 hardest working guys i've seen on a boat aside from matt the mate, and many more. helen H is a top notch operation, hats off to them, would go w/ them again in a heartbeat. what's next - maybe a trip to the carolinas for a big red drum from the surf or winter sailfish from miami?

my 1st wife didn't like me fishing so much

You are lucky it was your thumb, I know a guy that got his bells rung really good with a blue fin tail, right Skippy?

So that is your excuse for not man-handling the Keith shark? No really, I've never seen a guy pull harder in defeat.

Get that thumb fixed/cured pronto, Tog-fest II will be here before you know it and you don't want a tog taking you to the cleaner!

Must be a photo taken from the Francis fleet boat just before we decided to all give it the royal finger salute for moving in on our hot with fish area!
