Speaking of knots...

Which do you prefer to use when:

1) Tying on a hook (for eels)
2) Tying on wood / tin lure
3) Making a TnW rig

Palomar or Improved Cinch?

Hook for eels - Snelled hook.

Tying on wood/tin - Tie on a snap with a palomar knot. Use snap to attach lure.

T&W Rig - I've only bought them, but the ones I have have steel leaders with crimps.

but even then (although i've been told its unecessary) i back them up with a double clinch knot anyway -> so i have no doubt about my knot that shouldnt unravel or fail.

Palomar.....whenever and wherever I can use it......simple to tie, and one of the best......

To hooks: snelled
To all other things (barrel swivels, snaps): Trilene knot. Only had it fail once in my life because I was to busy watching something else to tie a proper knot.

Kind of hard to fish TnW from the beach.

I thought the UNI was the best. I tie uni's whenever I am at home and have the time and patience. 3am in the dark, with fish around, palomar is the only way to go.

I also use a double UNI to fasten leader to line.

Is the Palomar stronger/more reliable than a UNI?

In my opinion, and my opinion only, YES!!!!!!

But then, just ask Mr. Kav.....at least three or four times out on his boat, I came back with a curly que from my uni's, and the BIG fish swam away........and even though I've learned the hard way and tie them much, much better than before, I've never, ever had that happen with a palomar......

I use a palomar with an overhand safety knot on the tag for braid.I use a five turn improved clinch for mono, and a four turn improved clinch for heavy flourocarbon, both with a safety knot on the tag. My leaders are usually 20 lbs stronger than my braid so I figure I don't need the strength of the palomar. see you on the beach...longshot

leaders-palomar for the swivel and clinch for the snap swivel. to tie them on the main line-albright for braid and improved clinch for mono

Blackeye......just wondering.....why would you use all those different knots at those different points?.....from what you explained, I use the Palomar all around.....

Leader.....palomer to the swivel, palomar to the hook, or the snap swivel at the end of a hi-lo rig, (or to the snap [no "snap swivel" here, just a coastlock snap] for a plug leader)......and then from the main line to the top swivel on the leader, another palomar.....sure, here you have to make the loop a bit large to get the leader/hook/rig thru, but pull it tight (make sure you lubricate with spittle), and you're good to go.....
