Is there any market for used marine electronics?
I am thinking of upgrading my 4KWradar/10"chartplotter/fishfinder combo unit. It works fine and is in great shape (kept in the pilothouse). The reason for the upgrade is I would like the new broadband radar, sidescan and other features that are offered on today's new units.
Is it worth reselling a 2003 system ? Again, it works fine. I had it serviced this summer and asked this question to the tech and he said he would just use what you have until it breaks but I really want the newer technology on my boat and don't think it will break for a long time.
If I posted it here or eBay do you think it would be worth the effort? What is the value of these things?

I think if you try to sell for a very reasonable price someone without deep pockets looking to upgrade even older equipment will buy it. It is 7 yrs old and no warrentee etc, he will not know until he installs it if is was damaged while being removed. I would think on the high end, 25% of the original cost of the unit would be inline.

Jim,
What do you have and what were you thinking you want to get for it? Wasn't necessarily looking, but would consider... or at least put the word out. (I consider putting on a T-top every winter....which I would need to mount the radar)

One word
EBAY
I sold old working marine electronics, used marine steering, a used outboard in good shape.
and a left shoe !!!!!
As for the value, search for the same equipment and see what its going for.
Set an auction a bit lower and wait. Better than getting nothing for it.

Depending on how much you want, I may be interested in the Radar and chartplotter.

I will put something together with photos after the boat comes out. I will take a video of it working shortly.
I am realistic on price but have not decided on a number yet.
Thanks Van, I think I might be able to offset the cost of the new unit a little anyway.
I do plan to go simrad nse. I like the features a lot and hope to squeeze in two screens.
A few more weeks then I pull her. Gotta get some tog!! and maybe one more run east on a bluebird day to see if I can find another > than 73

My friend recently outfitted his boat with nse,he put 2 screens at 12" each. What a setup and very user friendly. Pricey for sure. Keep in mind that sidescan doesn't do much offshore but will be crazy good for togging.

How well do you see birds on your 4k system? May be interested if the other guys aren't.

To see birds you have to play around manually with the 3 filters and gain. I will be honest it is not that great. I use it mainly to see other boats and storm clouds the shoreline, buoys and other obstacles.
Newer models actually have a "Bird" mode with pre-adjusts that target tiny targets like birds. This does not.

I am not interested in seeing birds. I am interested in not hitting a tug towing a gas barge between PJ and the Block at 2 in the morning.

Definitely worth it. I bought my northstar 800X on e-bay. Put the stuff up both here and there, so if you sell it here you won't have to pay the commission.

As I was bringing her around to be hauled out I took a quick video with my cell phone in action and posted it on Photobucket. (sorry for the quality and my repetitious dialog. You can check out the two vid's there. For some reason when I uploaded it to photo bucket it rotated the video 90 deg. I will see if I can fix it. I have still not come up with a price yet and probably will not put it up on ebay for another month or so as I still have a lot of questions about the new units that I am trying to get answered. But I figured I would put it up here for anyone wanting a pre-view.

you ought to put a picture of the Nomad's engine compartment so any potential buyer knows exactly how clean you keep your stuff
I'd wish you luck in selling but you don't need it. That radar/nav/sounder package will fly.
offsubject but my lunch today was the last of my seabass, and on that trip I saw you (your boat) bebopping around the same spot.
