honey lami

I recently found a honey lami in the trash it's 11'4, the lighter yellow, and the wraps appear to be from the 60's or early 70's. Would anyone here happen to know a little more about this rod? It's ratings, type of glass, etc...I'll post some pics later on.

could be one of two models

SB 136 2M, 11'6",1 - H, 3-5oz

SB 136 3M, 11'6", 1 - H or B, 4-8oz

Model number, then length, how many pices and color honey or black and last section is the lure weight range.

the glass rods are great pencil rods, youll get a work out throwing it though.

Post some pics. I had a 9ft that was wrapped in the 60s by a local shop in datmouth mass, old wire guides, a friend rebuilt it and now his girlfriend uses it.

Post the pictures. If it's a Murat wrap I'll be able to tell.

Back in the 60s and 70s, the blank numbers would have been 1162 through 1166. The SB nomenclature came later on. The rods are basically the same (I don't think that there was ever a SB equivalent to the 1162). Just the blank numbers changed. The 1163 became the 136 2M, for example. The 3M was the 1165, and the 4M, the 1166. The 1164 became the 136 2F.

I can tell you I had the 3M with three inches cut off the tip and it could throw a long ways across the ditch. People used to stand and watch how far my three oz plugs were going.

I picked it outta the trash at a flea market in CT. Someone bought it as a combo it originaly had either a 706 or a 704 greenie on it and they tossed the rod in the trash im assuming cause of the missing stripper guide or they didn't have any way of bringing home an 11-1/2' rod. It's always nice to go to these places with rod racks :-)

I certain that it's not a Murat wrap. Both Charlie and Dave would do something (red, blue, green) over yellow. Also almost never saw then use straight cork. Usually cork tape but the color over yellow was a trademark for them.

I bought a white spiral Lami spinning rod from Dave, right off the rack in the store, that had a split straight cork grip just like that one. Blue over yellow wraps. Same white crutch-tip butt cap as that rod, too.

A friend has one that is a Murat, looks like that if the 70 or 60 has a wire stripper guide. Charlie and Dave did a spiral wrap on the first guide.

I posted this on the other site a while back and someone suggested that Al Cappy out of Everett Mass may have wrapped this, does that name sound familiar? And also judging by pics is it possible to tell if its a 136 2m or a 136 3m? I know it's probably a long shot...

Really can't tell the blank from a photo, because all of those blanks have roughly the same tip diameter.

Looks like that rod was made, when the mind set was the less guides the better.. mono choking,, I had a ten footer with a tip and 3 guides .

Mike, the blue over yellow was a Dave & Charlie special. I have had, and still have 30 or 40 Murat rods. None I have or have ever seen have just a single color. And I did say "almost never" when it came to the cork.

Looks like one of the rods they built at Top of the Dock in Gansett in the early 80's before it closed.Sweet find. Still one of the best an most durable rods you.ll ever use.People complain about them being heavy but look at the weight of some of the stuff that's built. Sweet rod.

I think that if you look a little closer at the wraps, they're red over yellow.

But, the guide wraps look too small to be Murat's.

I agree.It's not a Murat wrap.

I had DAVE wrap one for me in conventional with just one split cork handle -above -the reel seat.. None below.
Gave it to my son in law. Will have to look in his garage next time I think of it.
I really think it was red and yellow wraps.

One of the trademarks of most Murat rods is the mylar tape on them both guide trims an butt trims.

well I've got a couple of the older ones with the spiled butt that have to be from in the earlier 60's and several from the 70's that are 9 ft to 11 ftrs with the mylar tape in the spiral section of the wraps an a couple Al cappy rods the same.
