Most fish of this quality have fallen to guys who worked damn hard to find them. This one seems different and I find that disappointing in a way, almost like it diminishes a little the accomplishment of catching such a benchmark fish.

what makes you think that? They have the boat, the gear, and a sign that says old fisherman crossing in their yard. What makes you think they havent put in the time? Seem like lifetime fisherman to me (note I watched without volume so if they said they never fish I retract my question)
Also, I thought John Denver died?

Fishng records should go to hard working fisherman , long time fisherman , old timers who toss bait from folding chairs , beginners and kids with snoopy rods. A record indicates one thing , you caught a big fish. Be that by hard work , knowledge of fishing , the grace of God or sheer dumb luck, you catch the biggest fish , you get the record. That's all there is too it. I don't have any problem with that.
Whether the record stands or not , congrats to the guys on a nice fish.
