Cool story
Today i was walking along the cobble at southwest point on block island. Figuring it was high noon, I left the gear in the buggy... Big mistake. I look out and there is a bass that looked to be in the mid 40 lb class bass grubbing with his tail in the white water. I watched for a while and decided I was going to catch it. I stripped down and carefully waded out and swam out with the fish, who I discovered wasn't feeding, but was either dying or out of its mind, just flopping around. It let me touch her, let me hold her tail and lay next to me as I floated on my back. The whole event was like swimming with a dolphin..when her head was level with my ribs, her tail was almost at my feet.. After a while I decided it was time to say good bye and swam back to shore. I didnt see any damage to her mouth and I have no idea what her issue was.
Definately a moment I will never forget as long as I live....

Dear Penthouse, I never thought I'd write a letter like this, but the strangest thing happened on my way to the ferry...

Maybe it was suicidal and was thinking of beaching itself like a whale :P
But in seriousness, sounds like it was sick.

Cool indeed. Perhaps it was spent from a recent battle with a fisherman? Any signs that it was recently hooked/released?

It could have been a recent release... There were boats working the area. I didn't see any evidence of injury.

It's bad when the bass know you so well they know they have nothing to fear. Believe me I know. But really that sounds cool, were you able to handle it? Maybe it needed to be revived some?
