Big web presses are offset, so the ink is transferred from the plate to a rubber surface and then onto the paper. So the plate never really came into contact with the newsprint.
If you're doing a traditional print like an etching, litho, woodcut etc... the image is drawn in reverse as the paper makes direct contact with the art.
