best cheap conv. rod for jiggin' the Canal?
I don't fish up there much, and already have 2 spinning rods- want to put together a casting set-up (with a Saltist20) for a reasonable price (like under $100). something maybe 2-5 ounces, around 10 foot is what I have in mind...........
any advice? if ya got something used thats great too....(PM me if thats easier)
thx- Bob

Bob take a look at the lamiglas surf king, i think the the 10ft is rated 3 to 8oz, but its a 2 to 5oz rod in the real world. Its a nice rod for the price. I had the 11ft version in spinning a few years back and loved it.
I know one of the Okuma rods has been getting a lot of praise for the budget too, I have no experience with that rod though.
The lami should be 140 bucks or so.
The other option is to keep checking the classifieds section.

Any interest in a gently used glass 121 3M? No reel seat. 2-5 is well within its range.

Check out the stuff some of the guys on the site have for sale . You can get a great setup for almost as cheap as an inexpensive store bought one is. you'll get 5 times the rod an some really great reels or for sale dirt cheap.i bet you pay about the same as a cheap store bought set up. don't over look the fiberglass stuff listed. All us oldtimers used glass for yrs in the ditch. Tight lines Ron

If you can swing it, that's as good a jigging rod for 2-5 oz as you'll find. It throws plugs very well, too. Mine isn't for sale.

LOL Very nice. I still have my old heavy lami 10 ftr an squidder that I used to cast 8 oz jigs or herring with. Even put new 30lb pink ande on it just in case i get the urge to break it out of moth balls as i do at times.
