I live on Champlain. Not an ice fisherman, though I wouldn't mind trying sometime. Believe it or not I went fly fishing last Friday on a Champlain trib trying to tie up with a steelhead or salmon or anything that swims. Nada. Too much ice. They may have opened with the weekend thaw, but now it's cold again. I was catching right up until Christmas. Enjoy the trip up here. And be careful, 6 guys went through the ice 2 days ago. 4 got out okay, 2 had to be rescued.
