Some of the spots I fish get crowded. I try to be decent and "share" rotation ect. If that don't work it's time to move I go fishing to have fun not to fight.........

if someone is bad enough to take my spot, i'll walk down to him and ask him how the fishing is and then tell him how it was before he got there. if he acts like a jerk, i will leave quietly and hope he has triple A or a couple of cans of fix a flat

ShoreM:

You are right about that, weekends are the worst. I've been in huge schools of fish with almost 100 other boats.
I just move to the edge, keep my distance, and hope for the best.

If it gets real crazy i move on.

But you are right, they are everywhere. I have many-a-story..

Sometime over a beer when i have about 3-6 hours I can go through some of them !!!!!

Although I know this,,, the ocean is a BIG place, I've been into non-stop fish for hours on end, with no-one around for miles.
Those are the sweet days.....

PAINT BALLS !!!! GREAT IDEA, sometimes a surface to surface stinger missle would be nice too!!!!!

on the subject of surfcaster etiquette for spot taking, it depends on a lot of things. one being how crowded the spot/area is, how the fishing is, my mood, and if the person saw me there already. usually, i just go right next to them and as close to my original spot as possible while purposely cast badly hooking their line. if we happend to tangle a few times i might have to cut their line to get the leader out. i then give them their leader back and say i had to cut his line. if they go to retie, i go right back to my spot. i will try and make my best effort to make a wide swing in my pendulum w/ a 6' leader trail to see how they likes the sound of that by their ear. if they ask first before taking the spot, i might give it to them and move down. if it's a young lad, i'll move down to another spot or go over to them and ask them how they are doing and even assist. i've caught my share and don't mind standing back to some of the older or younger anglers.

surfcasting etiquette seems to have definitely gone downhill nowadays in the surf. between people puking up info on fishing success and spots, crowds have increased in areas that should get little attention.

I think the best thing is to politely ask them to move on. If they don't get it, wade out in front of them, far enough that you would'nt hurt them if you are casting. If you make contact with someone while casting, and you are trying to get elbow room, it could be construed as assault and battery. You could then find yourself in som doo doo.

Surf etiquette

or, the lack thereof, moreso these days....

If I am fishing in front of my camper, it's pretty simple,
"Hey, get outa my yard" in a very stern voice. I am no threat,
but there is strength in #'s in that case.

It doesn't usually happen when I'm really fishing, that is, hunting the beach in my 150. I know the spots I want to hit, if they are crowded, I'll move on. If I do get the rude one who happens upon me, and jumps in my grave, I'll do like Slip said, try the nice talk, if that is to no avail, I get in the truck and leave... Oh, I forgot to mention, I make sure I turn the truck around SLOWLY, with the HIGH BEAMS on facing the water and the offender.
I think they get my message after that
