Thumbs up Hats off to Gary Corsetti

I do not post much here but have been a member for a few years and I thought I would to bring attention to Capt. Gary Corsetti's recent tournament wins.

I know many members here, including myself, have had the honor of taking a charter with Gary. It is undoubted that Gary may very well be the best Striped Bass fisherman in the NE. By no means is he lucky, he knows the waters, the species, and a whole hell of a lot more than myself (not that that is saying much )

Gary, fishing by himself (I Think), has swept the last 3 ASA tournaments. This past weekend he bagged a 54lber to win the most recent Montauk tournament.

not much has been posted yet but I am sure by the end of the week the ASA will have a full story www.fishasa.com

Congrats Gary

He also just took the Back Eddy contest in Westport , MA this past weekend, 53# change. A few miles above water on that fish. I will definitely be taking notes when I see him....

If any of you guys know Gary, send him this which I copied of the ASA website today. They seem to be in the habit of changing the rules to spread the prizes out.

Division winners
the top angler in each division will receive a mercury outboard

the boat captain who catches the largest 2 fish out of 3 tournaments in each division will take home a mercury outboard.
4 outboards will be given away
(this prize is based on a minimum of 175 members living in a division)

SHUR-BET Takes home the Division 2 Title and wins a Mercury Outboard valued at over $10,000

SHUR-BET Sherwood Lincoln HydraSports Yamaha 46.52 37.33 32.15 116.00
ON LINE Skip Stritzinger Trophy Mercury 37.30 38.45 34.85 110.60
SHOWTIME Gary Corsetti Contender Yamaha 47.15 54.10
101.25
ALLURE Bill Gavitt Pequot Mercury 34.05 24.41 41.10 99.56

Not a bad weekend for him. Potentially 5k for the big one, 999 in Westport, 200 in certificates in Westport. I do not understand why he would not be awarded the outboard in Div 2. Two biggest fish out of three tournies. That fish is what you call a multiple tournament winner.

That's the point, nobody knows. They change the rules all the time and it affects the prize allocation. If you actually read their rules you are at a disadvantage because half of them are not enforced. I had copies of last years rules and when I presented them to officials I was actually told they were the prior years rules (even though they were handed out at the tournament) and it cost us a boat. When another rule violation was brought up this year concerning last years winner, it was ignored also. Guess who came in second? It cost us another boat. Now if we had known that you needed 3 fish to win division 2 we wouldn't have bothered with the last tournament as we only had one fish weighed in. Not to mention the fact that they decided to make it a one day tournament on Fri. night after many people had bait, hotels, slips reserved for 2 days. No wonder they only got 15 boats or so for the last 3 tournaments. At least Gary reads your site!

That's why a-lot of people that have fished all of the tournaments, and pushed hard to make the ASA successful won't be fishing next year.

i think the ASA is over. the tourneys were fun but they're a greedy and poorly organized corporation. i be very surprised to see it around next year. i'm not saying that i wouldn't do one or two in southern new england but the organization (not the fisherman involved) sucks.
