new guy
Just received several wooden plug kits and look forward to spraying and finishing them. Got interested in plugs after I made a wooden egg to use to cast large 12" - 16" flatwing flies in heavy wind and surf using spinning gear. Noticed that the egg would get whacked, too! Hope you guys don't mind a few questions along the way. I alerady tie my own flies and have modified lures. I think I already know where this is going, too....

It starts with kits. NJ's are great. Then you start wondering "what if" and you are doomed. Welcome, the guys here are true artists. We have a young-un here ( Christian I'm not good enough to hold his airbrush) who is a master already. There a builders here that are true artists, and they share the info. I love this forum!

Thanks!
Hey, thanks for making me feel so welcome. A friend has already voluteered to let me borrow his lathe. :-) Until I get these kits finished and try turning a few, I may occasionally "bore" you all with a few of the flies I have tied that caught fish this past summer. I'll post on the Fly Fishing Board.

Fly posted
I posted one of the large flatwings that I fished up here this fall on the Fly Fishing Board. There is also a 7" Bomber with a flatwing tail. They both worked pretty well. I'd be happy to tie up a few tails like the one posted for folks to try out.

Welcome Steelhead. Just getting started myself. This site inspired me to start making my own plugs. This winter should bring results now that fishing has slowed down.

Olive Bomber with tail
Not sure where this should go, so I posted on The Sw Fly Fishing Board and here. I've been tying and using these big flatwings for a while now flyfishing. Then I got frustrated with not being able to fish them in heavy wind and surf, so I began using a wooden egg and a fly with spinning gear. Then I began using Bombers with tails that I had tied ( this one is a 7" Bomber). The more I did this, the more I realized that you guys fishing plugs were really on to something!!! So much to learn, so little time...
Hope to be posting some plugs soon!!! (Thank you NJ Tackle...)
If anyone wants me to tie up some nice flatwing tails for their plugs, I'd be happy to do so.
Would the big flatwing work as a teaser?
